This is my ride report from Georgiaoffroad.com forum.
The "family fun ride" is a fundraiser for Medically Fragile Children.. We raised $20,005 at this event. It is a very worthy cause.
http://www.dreamhouseforkids.org/Thanks to Sam and all the volunteers that helped put together this event for a great cause.
Also thanks to Russell Bobbitt for taking the time to chip in for a good cause
Weather was perfect, trails got better every lap.
I arrived about 10am. Parked amongst some random vehicles and went up for the rider meeting.
After the riders meeting, I paid my entry. (thanks to USMCThumper for his generous contribution).
While getting ready, I introduced myself to the fella's around me. I had parked next to DT and Dizastro. Don and John, also Larry was with DT. Good to meet you guys
We all headed out together, it was very slick on the first lap. DT led to start with. Larry wasnt feeling well before we started and was feeling worse after a couple of miles. He told us to carry on and he would take the next cutoff back to camp. So I led for a while, then I missed a turn and Dizastro took off into the lead then me and Don. Dizastro got a bit of a break from DT and I. I got to the expert loop cutoff and Dizastro is nowhere to be seen. So I take off down the expert loop. Found out later he took the cutoff back to camp.
I come across cbob and Bo and Russell, as Russell used his Super National Championship skills to get the kids four wheeler out of trouble Cbob left us and I followed Bo and Russell through the rest of the expert loop.
Back to camp and time for lunch. Caught back up with DT and Dizastro for lunch, Arod graced us with his presence too
Went out for my second loop, this time we had Nick Restivo, Bo Bobbitt, Jim East (senior) and another guy with Jim on a blue bike, sorry missed your name. The five of us went at it, swapping leads, getting lost, just having a great time. We ran the whole 10.5 mile loop again.
More drinks and rest.. caught up with John-dizastro and DT again back at the vehicles.
We decided to do 1 more lap. So the three of us head out again. Dizastro led, he was having a blast on his new 200. We got turned onto a trail the wrong way just briefly when cbob came at us head on. We realised our mistake, we had only gone 15 yards or so.. About face and head off in the right direction Dt was now leading, then me, cbob and Dizastro, cbob kept putting the front wheel up beside me, so I signal him through, he then puts a move on DT and passes him. I couldnt help it So I turned the wick up and give chase to cbob, I was able to force him into missing a turn and we stopped and chatted. He had other errands to run and he disappeared. I waited until DT and Dizastro came through and tagged along. Dizastro had a small spill, His second of the day. So we stopped and had a rest, he got his bike turned around we moved on again. DT had kept trucking so he was long gone... Dizastro and I got to the cutoff for the expert loop and I convinced him he needed to try it. So off we went on the expert loop. I led the way and we had a great time cruizing along. Stop and chat every now and then. The trails were great. You could lose the arrows every now and then but it wasnt hard to figure out where you messed up.
Good day, met new friends caught up with old friends, Michellle, Arod, Ginny, Bates, Nick.
Finally got to meet Slimjim I missed MichaelP, Scottgreer and some others I'm sure, but maybe next time ...
