Well after a couple of cancellations it was only Russel (ride leader) and I in for a ride on Easter Sunday.I have not ridden this area before so I did not know what to expect. We were on the bikes by 9.00am with the plan to a few hours and be back at the cars around 1.00-2.00.
We covered 90kms and were back at around 3.00.
A lot of the tracks were quite technical, with rocky climbs and descents. Also some quite narrow tracks that were a bit of a work out.Other tracks had been bulldozed, and with the lack of rain, many had a deep layer of loose top soil. This made it like riding in sand, and made a couple of the hills a little tricky. The last hour or so we hooked up with a couple of locals and followed them for a while, but found this did not help the dust situation.
This area would be great after a little rain, some of the tree root infested, rocky climbs would get real interesting.
I think this is a good area to go for a 1 day ride,as it is close to Melbourne and also the area is quite small. So getting lost would be a challenge. So if you want to go riding somewhere different not too far from Melbourne, give it a shot.
Thank Russel.

Can the committee please order some bloody rain?

Had a good ride out at Cobaw in late Jan, just two of us and it was a slightly damp day which kept the dust down.  A slightly better riding area than Wombat.

Post HCR I will be keen to join in on a ride out the west side of Melbourne, with a view to putting on a ride later in the year there.

Wombat would be good for a level 1 ride along the firetrails.

When is the next ride?
