My names Dane, Im the lad that broke his leg on the Epic day that was the Rawson ride.

I thought I'd write in and give an update on my progress/rehab and mostly, to thank the professionalism of the organisation, and those that stayed with me whilst I was on the dirt.

Firstly, to the gents that stayed next to me while I awaited the helicopter, thankyou so much. Your support was most appreciated. My state of mind was far from settled, and having good company made all the difference.

To the gents who toiled long into the evening to retrieve my beloved KTM, again, thankyou. I was sure it was going to live a long life buried in gum tree leaves in the forest forever. Your hard work is greatly appreciated.

To the gentleman that had the EPIRB beacon, my family thanks you for your preparedness. After reviewing my injuries on arrival at the Alfred Hospital, the surgical team advised I didnt have much blood left to lose internally, and the time saved by having that EPIRB was very important.

Now for the injury list.

Right Leg
Broken Femur - 3 inches above knee joint, clean break. Titanium Rod inserted from hip joint to knee. Broken knee cap, bone chips throughout knee joint.

Left Leg
bruising of knee joint, torn thigh muscle from knee joint.

Groin - severely bruised gentlemans parts and a tear in the bag that required treatment.

I spent 1 week in the alfred hospital, and went home on the 6th of August after 4 bouts of surgery, 4 blood transfusions, and a whole lotta worrying my fiance. The team at the Alfred are the F1 Team of surgery/nursing. Never have I felt more confident in a team's plan and implementation. They are to be commended for that fact I was up walking on crutches 4 days after the accident.

As most of you would have heard, Im getting married in 6 weeks. My fiance wishes to thank all of you for doing what you did to pull me through. I can't thank all of you enough.


If this message is full on, please excuse the depth, however the accident has really aligned some priorities for me and I wanted to say my thanks.


I've got a long road of rehab in front of me, and a long time before i see a motorbike/pushbike of any sort.

Seano here ,(this was my ride ,but unfortunately my bike broke)Great to hear your getting there and hope your recovery is speedy ,its never good to hear about these type of offs in the bush.All the best for the wedding and good luck for you and your futer wifes life together and maybe I can catch you on the trails in the near future.

Good on ya Dane, I don't want to dwell on the matter, but, can you remember anything leading up to the stack. I checked your tire marks and it looked like the rear wheel gripped and then rebounded off a hidden rock on the right hand side of the main track ?
