WRF 100%. Even if the CRF was free, I would buy the Yamaha.

Very different bikes to ride, but CRF is 250 and WRF 450. For a 250 I quite like the CRF, they feel a bit more lively than the WRF, although that could be set up.

I would go either and just go with the best price. Neither has had any major updates for a few years so problems should be sorted.

What capacity are you after?

Just look around on a ride, the WRf has the runs on the board for reliability. 450's are more forgiving/easier to ride than a 250 and for more excitement just turn the throttle a bit more.

G'day Mr. Dusting

I've clocked up 7500klm on an 05 wr250f & 5500klm on a crf 250x.
Yamaha = unbeatable engine reliability, The valves hadn't moved in 7500klm !
       = Motor has very little torque down low compared with the crf       
       = motor revs to about 20 million rpm
       = seat height is much higher than the crf.
       = handling / suspension ( even after "Kroozetune"is ordinary ( 07 & later should be better.)

Honda = Higher maintenance engine       
      = You will need to replace standard valves with stainless steel ones
      = You will need to replace the honda piston & rings about every 70 ish hours , preferably with after market ones which well last around 200 hours.
      = Handling is sensational
      = Motor is amazingly grunty & will tractor you out of all sorts of situations where you would expect a 250 to die. The mid range power will surprise you....... just no comparison with my previous yammy.   
      = Feels lighter & is easier to ride if you are a short arse like me.
      = I absolutely love my crf & will happily perform the required maintenance..... It has had a hell of a tough 5500klm & just keeps begging for more.

Id go the wrf. They have a really strong engine and especially in the 250 the power delivery isnt all that harsh so great bike for someone whos looking at getting back into riding after a break (which why i chose one).
However i cant speak in terms of reliabiliy as my bike turned out to be the 'Friday arvo bike' so im only going by the word of others i know who own them but if your buying a second hand one and you know a mechanic take them along so they can check out the condition of the valves for you.

Hey, I'm supporting an 08 wr250 7K 48 year old (pipe and suspension)
                       07 wr450 4k 18 year old (pipe)
                       06 wr250 4k 15 year old (nothing)

I'v had to modify the bikes slightly for different abilities but in general the bikes are holding their own on reliability. Service at a shop has been very minimal (do my own oil, filters, brakes and tires) They just keep going. Parts are cheap from overseas and easily available.

Also, speek to Al Mason he has a wr250 with 100,000 ks on it. He needs a little help at times but both are still going strong. Ha Ha.
