To the Yamaha brethren and to those who wish they walked amongst us today Yamaha announced the 2010 YZ450.

It’s the biggest changes since 2006?

In short these are the biggest changes that jumped out at me.

  • They have reversed the engine, air intake in the front, exhaust back.
  • Airbox is where the fuel tank was and a under seat tank
  • New aluminium bi-lateral frame
  • New four valve cylinder head
  • Electronic fuel injection
  • They have angled the cylinder rearwards slights to improve the COG.  Which it the opposite to BMW and Husaberg!
  • And it looks cool.

More info here: http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelhome/209/0/home.aspx

So the question still remains when will it transfer into the WR?

The 2010 WR450 hasn’t been officially announced but traditionally it will be the following year when it flows onto the WR...  But who knows.

It will be interesting to see one in the flesh.

The first problem I can see with a WR is the fuel tank, will it be able to fit a bigger tank and carry a decent load of fuel? Huh

Roll Eyes

Only spec's I can compare to are the 2009 YZ.

Funny you mention the height, for those vertically challenged, the bike another 1/2 an inch higher.

But whats half an inch, I spose it's a lot when you don't have it!

Another interesting titbit is that the Crankshaft is actually offset from the Piston so that when it fires all the force is pushed directly downwards rather than having lateral force applied as well.  Be interesting to see if it works.

Also four valve head.  Be interesting to see how the valves go.

I got a theory on this:
It's all got to do with the Japs finally building a bike for the southern hemisphere.  Just as water runs down a drainpipe in a different direction depending on where you are (geografically), so must an engine spin.  In Japan, the engine must spin clock-wise, but here, it needs to spin counter-clockwise.  If they simply changed the rotation direction, the bike would run backwards, but by turning the engine 180 degs, the engine spins in the right direction for us!  And so as to not confuse the engine, they have swapped the position of air box and fuel tank to trick the motor into thinking it's still in Japan, and facing the correct way!

    Clever people these Japs!

    Serge I'm confused....

Are you standing on the left of the right of your bike, because it goes both clockwise and anti clockwise!

    Oh, bugger!

You saw the flaw in my theory!

Yes, because there may be those who are Green with envy, or Red with embarrasment, or Orange cos they like citrus fruit!?!
