Only got the one with rock ledge getting out, that has to be crossed. The water was half way up the doors the other day crossing at the bottom of the staircase. And i took notes at the meeting when this gun came and gave us a talk about how to cross rivers. And how he had seen some idiot ride leader fall in only the week before. So glad it wasn't me?

Buckerooni, the help was not a problem! Sorry your day ended so early, at least it was easy to get you back to the cars. If you need any more advice with oil and water issue let me know. We had some more de-watering by the end of the day and the ride hit Clubman level in a few places yesterday. It was dark before we got back to the cars. See you out there again soon, Al

Thanks Al, sounds like a big day!
I've done about 6 changes and the oil is nearly there. My routine was pretty much - warm bike up for 3 min, drain oil, replace, warm bike up, drain etc.
Ended up doing the changes without the oil filter, as I figured there's no point until the oil is running clean.
Was reading over at DirtBikeWorld :
If the oil is already emulsified, ie: mixed with the water and gone creamy, drain the lot out after warming the bike, then fill with kero, run for a few minutes through all the gears and drain.
This was for a smoker, would this be OK for a 4T? If running it with kero saves me a change, or is actually better for getting rid of the crap I'd definitely do it. What do you think?

I wouldn't do that with a four stroke, you need real lubrication for the sliding things, and kero is not a real lubricant.

Buckerooni. As Tim said. Ive always done the oil after oil change thing until clean. Then new filter and oil and after the first good ride, i drop it again to be sure. Oil is cheap compaired to the bits it can wreck. My Yami just hit 13,000ks on saturday and has had three drowings in its life. Al

A bit of water in the engine won't do much harm. Trust me, I know. I drowned a DRZ 3 times on its first ride...... or was it 4.
My KTM also went under several times. All were fine.
Rowan was not so lucky, he sucked in a bunch of mud/sand and damaged a motor on a 2 stroke.

all good now. had a bit of an oil leak as I'd compressed the alloy a bit on the oil hose through over torquing it. Replaced the bolt and sanded the area smooth and square again - no leak  saved myself $135 for a new part. |
