Well I figured that I would start off the ride report for yesterdays ride nice and early so everyone can start posting their pics and vids. Grin

It had rained all week, and on Saturday morning I woke at 4am to what sounded like, a firemans hose on the roof. Not wanting to believe the rain, I rolled over and pretending I didnt hear it (usually this ensures that everything will go away) Tongue

6am and it was still raining. Perfect.

We arrived at the BP Meeting place around 7:30am, to find Zeb already there with a couple of others. It wasnt long before everyone started to filter in and before long it was 8 and we were off to the unloading area.

With the bikes unloaded, Alister's brand spanker KTM 300 inspected by all, register signed and a brief chat from our fearless leader Zeb, we were paired up with either a less experienced or more experienced rider to make the day as smooth as possible with the number of riders. With that, we were off.

Starting with some firetrail type roads, the pace was good and without incident we headed into the more adventurous tracks. On the first real up hill of the day, most people got through easily however a couple of people stopped half way and then battled for traction the rest of the way up. We continued on some more open 4wd tracks with some fairly sticky and boggy mud with multiple lines that tested the new comers. Everyone got through easily enough with a push and shove here and there to help out the less experienced.

After re-grouping at the top of Little Bunyip (or was it Andersons), the groups split, with the more experienced riders heading down and the less experienced riders going around to another location with Zeb, Alister and some of the other experienced riders to lend a hand.

Little Bunyip was very slippery at the top, and then half way down turned into a mud pit. Oscar managed to bury his Husky at the bottom of one of these areas, but was able to free it from the mud with some generous throttle. We all regrouped down the bottom and headed around to Nash Loop for some laps. The Nash loop was surprisingly grippy and that provided for some solid non-stop laps by all. Around 7 laps later or so, the newbies joined us for some more laps around Nash.

After some interesting line choices on the up-hill sections, the less experienced riders all made it through easily enough and with a few laps under everyones belts, we headed back to the cars for lunch and a refuel.

Level 1 Slog at Tynong :  Driving up the M1 and looking to the left out the windscreen I could not believe how much rain I could see sitting over the ride area and again just like everyone else thinking  how stupid it seemed to be going riding in this weather should be in bed , that’s until you fire up your bike and all of the doubts disappear and a certainty takes over and you would not be anywhere else in the world and you just can’t wait to hit the tracks .
We ended up with 26 of the 33 that signed up and I thought that was pretty good considering the really wet and cold day, 8.00 am I fired the little Nissan into life and away we went I don’t think North Laboutouch  road has seen that much traffic in a decade but it was an easy trip as the road had been tar and gravel surface all the way in to the power lines what a luxury compared to normal.  After everyone had geared up and I had a lovely 20 min chat with Ted we got into the paperwork, I decided that for at least the morning session we were gunna buddy up the newer guys with the more experienced riders to try and keep things moving along a little better, we got through the rider briefing and we were ready.
Finally we were away heading towards the ridge got to the first corner and waited for the group, cant remember who rocked up first but the news came that someone had flipped 50mts into the ride and I remember thinking why is a newbie chucking mono’s right out of the gate but NOPE it wasn’t a newbie it was Clarkie, he musta kinda got it a little wrong but luckily he was OK and so was the WR. We continued on and headed up toward the ridge the sky was still grey but we were still rain free, tracks were wet but seemed OK so the time had come to try a little more throttle and get some adrenalin going because  I knew once we hit the top its was going to be tip toe all the way so better clear the plug now i thought.   We corner manned it to Andersons were we had a break and regroup it didn’t take long for the group to be all present and accounted for so the buddy system must have been working well.
At this point it seemed a good idea to challenge some of the confident guys and send them down Andersons ( Don’t know what happened so I will leave that loop of others to comment on but at a guess it would have been 3 foot deep mub for the middle third of the loop  suck eggs guys hope you enjoyed it) the remaining 14 of us kept heading north along the ridge until we hit the next corner , after waiting for a long time I heard a lunatic on a 2 Banger KTM heading our way and it was Alistar but we were one rider short so immediately I thought the worst but luckily Al told us that Rod couldn’t get the YZ going and we were going to have to head back , anyway we will leave the YZ story for another report she really needs some love >>
After sorting the Yammi we finally got to a nice little hill on a side track I stopped the group and asked if anyone wanted to have a crack , only Al put his hand up , he wanted to test his new machine and if he was gunna have a go then DARN IT SO WAS I and to his credit Bod the builder followed us , around we went to the other side of the gorge dropped into the valley and stopped at the bottom looking at each other and thinking it looked allot wetter from the bottom , Al slipped the clutch and away he went and because I could not see him I figured that when I hear him back off he will be at the top and I would get into it , could not hear the Kato any more so away I went problem was that Als bike was quiet because he was sprawled out on the track so when I was him it was either ride over him or stop , well because I didn’t want to put knobby marks on his new side plates I decided to stop WHAT A MISTAKE , we slipped slid and fell our way back to the bottom dragging our bikes with us and both nailed it the second time , once at the top we I heard a two banger buzz and low and behold Simon a pretend newbie was blasting his way up , on the pegs shifting his wait from one side like a pro reaching the simmit easily and on one wheel that left Bob at the bottom on his own , common Bod we yelled but while he was trying to summon the courage down came the rain and that was it the moment was gone because a river was already flowing down where he needed to ride up so me and Mr Moto Cross Simon headed back down to rescue him which was a challenge but we got him out the other side and rode back to the group . We headed off and met up with the other group for a well earned break and a chat.
Back at Nash loop again and around we went , this time we did it in reverse Grandpa and I went ahead and parked on the little trouble maker hill and as suspected a few had trouble but  nothing to dramtic , Ben boiled his Kato and got a rest while she cooled down and the troublesome YZ finally gave up the ghost minus a clutch , Marls and Nic did a good,  job slowing down but they got going again without to much trouble , when we were finally done with Nash Loop Dave lead the group back to the cars and I tailed for the 10k run following Nic ( Nic the throttle is on the right hand side OK ) kidding you had a good day not to much trouble from what I remember.
Lunch saw the usual exodus leaving about 12 of us to go for a burn around the western side of the park , Grandpa led while I tailed to give Al a good crack at his new KATO up the mountain , the group rode really well considering at this stage our level 1 had turned into a 2+ because of the wet ground , we tuned of the main road into a narrow track where I came across Marls stuck fast with both pegs buried into the sides of a rut , Paul , Oscar and I pulled her out with some grunting and brut force and we were away , we reached the gate a Tee Tea Track and Grandpa decides to do the normal route in reverse leading us to the challenge of the day , 150mts or so of 2ft deep thick mud right across the track with two erosion mounds for good measure , I stopped and waited for a while looking for a line to open up their was bodies everywhere , finally spotted a line got on the pegs and throttle and went for it , going over the first mound I noticed that a guy was laying in the mud with his foot stuck under his bike , dam it I though no stopping this time around , navigated past him and blasted to the top to find Grandpa waiting with a look of amazement on his smiling face , when I looked back to see who the guy on the ground was I was amazed to see It was Gazza Clarke , Ha nice to see Mr Nothing Stops me can come unstuck from time to time ( Unlucky Gazz you were clean up until that point ) . To everyone’s credit they picked and revved and picked and revved their way through what was an absolute mess of a track and with a little help right at the top for a couple they all made it through bloody good job.
From there it was plain sailing around the rest of the loop , the group even climbed Genttle Annie without any drama ending up back at the cars around 4.15 pm , change of clothes and a chin wag  and we were headed home.
Thanks everyone hope you all had a good day , Thanks Al for Tailing ( the new KTM is a pearler ) .
Lastly I know that in generally everyone is helpful but there are two guys that really  amaze me , Garry Clarke and Grandpa Steve Morris , these two guys went out of their way all day to support lesser riders , they stopped  and wait in placed that they knew people were going to have trouble to be ready to help newer members get going quickly , I didn’t ask them they just did it no matter how much effort it took, if everyone had a good day yesterday its largely due to these two guys supporting this ride and from what I can see every ride they attend.

So after lunch the remaining group headed back out to the bush for a little more excitement.

We all regrouped at the bottom of Tea Tree Track and started off up the track. For for the first 200 metres or so I was thinking "hmmm this is usually way more muddier than this". Then Whamo, the track turned into a 2 lane highway of bog, mud and slippery surfaces heading straight up. With most people stopped on the left hand side to watch a couple stuck in the mud, Marls just motored up the side of the track with no fuss. Eventually we all got up and were treated with some more greasy/glassy tracks with the out hole here and there, a couple of logs and a hell lot of fun.

It was then time for Al to open up the 300 up Gentle Annie for an exploritory ride. Al returned, the signal was given, and we all headed up the mountain. Although the track looked super slick, traction wasnt too much of a problem going up. Once at the top we had a couple of minutes to enjoy the view and then we off down Western Track.

After what felt like 4 hours coming down Western Track, we were finally at the bottom and heading back to the cars.

All in all, I think everyone had a great day ( I know I did).

Also, a huge thanks to Zeb and everyone who helps out on these rides for taking the time out of their own weekends to run these rides. I'm sure most people who meet Zeb will confirm just what a good bloke he is and always happy to help and provide assistance.

Thanks to everyone who came and rode, I know my cousin Pete couldnt stop talking about how great the day was on the way home.

Also, sorry t o Neil who was my buddy. I thought one of the other guys was you and followed him for the morning. At the Nash Loop I asked him "How are you finding it Neil? YOu dont need a buddy". To which Peter replied "I;m not Neil.At least that explains why you have been sitting behind me all morning". Huh  Sorry again Neil.

Firstly,I'd like to thank Zeb for putting on such a great ride in testing conditions and with so many newbies. Mate, you certainly have some patience. Grin
This being my first ride with AMTRA certainly wont be my last.
I met a good bunch of blokes and gals and would love to ride with you again.
Mark, don't worry about not buddying up, I think I lost you after the roo. I wasn't behind you I was in front.  Grin Tongue

G'day All,
This was my first Zeb Man's Ride and what a ride it was.
Yes it was wet, yes we had 4 seasons in 1 day & yes it was slippery, boggy, rutty with monster swimming pools thrown in, but everyone had a big smile on their face. Thanks Zeb, you put together a perfect level 1 ride & the afternoon hills practice session was interesting  Shocked, especially the not so 'Gentle Annie', but we survived. All really great fun.
Also big thanks to the tailmen; Alistair for your assistance in the morning & Zeb, for your assistance in the arvo & for both of you letting me have a ride on your 2 smokers...wow...what rockets!
My riding buddy was Mark Clarky & it sounds like you needed more help from me, than me needing your help  Tongue.... I guess your bike likes to explore sub-terranian, inner earth, hidden canyon, rutty dam like, bogholes as well like mine...see, ya shouldave stuck with the level 1 tracks with the girly  Wink..seriously though, thanks for your advice along the journey & I did try to practice going faster....sort of... Lips sealed

Many thanks Zeb for organising the ride - I got a chance to try out the new jacket, and managed to fang around the Nash Creek loop 8 times, so I was a happy little vegemite. Smiley

Thanks to Zeb for planning out a great ride, seemed to have a bit of everything Smiley Special thanks to Grandpa for being my buddy and helping me with those pesky downhills. Also special thanks to my buddy that helped me on Nash's Loop (you know who you are!)

Smashing reports Zeb and Mark and awesome picks Marls and Freddo!!!

After removing the butterfly stitches strip thingies on Thursday night to see if the gash on the hand had healed and to me it looked partially healed so it was enough for me to make up my mind that i was gonna give my nefair ofw machine that i was picking up the next day its first hit out.
Saturday rolled around after taking Friday off to organise a few things and pick up the new bike and to my suprise it wasnt raining all that much. I picked up Oscar and heading out past Pakenham i saw the thick blanket of rain to my left but we were on our way and nothing was gonna stop us.
To cut the story short as all i will say has already been mentioned but i was happy that i was up at the back while trying to get use to the new bike. To be honest i thought i would have spent a fair bit of time off the bike helping the less experienced riders due to the heavy rain all week which tends to make tracks slippery and boggy but no every single one of them handled the conditions really well!
As Zeb mentioned about me having dramas on that technical climb i would like to thank those who came down to give me a hand picking up the bike and directing me down the hill as every time i tried to stand up near the bike my footing seemed to slip away Roll Eyes.
After lunch Zeb offered to take on tail which gave me an opportunity to see what this orange rocket was capable of thanks heaps Zeb Smiley. I must say i was fairly confident i had made the right decision in which bike i chose before the ride had started but by the end of the day i know i had picked the right bike for me. The snappy power wasnt much of a handful for me but the climb up Gentle Annie really showed me what i loved most about the bike and i love it!
Thanks to Zeb for putting on the ride your a real credit to the club thanks Steve to leading the arvo and thanks to everyone who came along. To those beginners and less experienced riders you all did well. The more you ride the better you will get and i hope you see you all out on the trails some time soon.
