Where I want to be...

« on: November 15, 2012, 10,34:17 AM »

Cup weekend at Abbeyard happened again this year with about 50 people getting to the property over the weekend, I got there about 10pm Friday to find nobody still up to have a relaxing beer with, you slack B.... Grin

Saturday, some went out for a ride while the ones that stayed on the property did what they wanted to, kids on bikes, people still arriving/setting up and working around the property.

Sunday was ride day for me, a ride out to Blue Range Track. Six of us set out and made good time until a puncher in Andrew's DR rear tyre and then another within a k or so from a pinch from the rim lock, the second time fixed it was good, but an hour lost in time.

Blue Range track starts about 10km down the Dargo Rd, it follows a range that is about 1700 m above sea level and then drops to a river at around 500m above sea level and stops, so you do it one way and then back, the 1200m drop is over about 7km, not steep by bike standards but a few rocky pinches that need to be attacked to clear them.

D K had a bit of an issue with a carby just before one of these pinches so after a bit of track side maintenance he was able to get past the tough bit.

Time was slipping by so the trip home was a stopping only for regroups and to move fuel from bikes that had it to the bikes that didn’t. We got back to the property a little after 5 with 173km for the ride.

Monday my plan was to start on the new hole for the toilets to be moved over. So I marked out where I needed to dig and with the help of Nicole (daughter) we dug until it was about knee deep on me and then called it a day after putting up some safety tape. The plan was that I’d made a start and I’d come back another day and continue.

About lunchtime Mark E came up to me and said that the neighbour (Andrew) next to us had said he would bring his excavator over and finish the hole.

Tuesday we were out the gate by 11:00 and home in Kilsyth to hear the running of the Cup.

The first thing to do was remove a small bush.
You can see the extent of the hole before.

Making a start.

Easy work.

It’s a 9ton excavator that Andrew got two weeks before,
he was keen to dig!

The hole, about 2.5 meters deep!

More hole.

Then on the way back to his place the sump of the fallen
tree was cleaned up.

We made the hole safe.

Then we all headed down to the river to recover from
the hard work.

Then it was listening to the day that David Knight had
and how good he is, the girls arn't so sure.

I can recall the day Australia went to the dogs...
The day that I had to pay for sauce on my pie.

Good pics (and story), Tim.   Needs more dragons though!

Great work that you and your girl did.  It would have been a b!tch digging in that soil.  How lucky are we (you) that the digger was loitering in the neighborhood ?

Many may have noticed the bike for sale on our front page, this is a small thank you for the generous donation of the excavator time that sped up digging the new toilet pit.

If you are thinking of another bike take a look.

Regards,

Mat.
