Ride Report:  David Smith

Well where do I start, This Ride was a big ordeal for me with the new bike on order.
It was about 4:30 when I got the call; your bike just turned up in the box but we don’t have time to get it together.  With a bit of talking I was able to pick it up in the box...

So Rowen, Paul and I got working on the bike and we got it just about together when Matt turned up with a spare bike for me to use just in case.
With a few last things to finish we then fired it up and all was good, I was ready to go.

So with about 6 hours sleep Matt and I headed off to the bp servo where we met Rowen and Paul.
The boys were inside getting breaky where they found Rob and Chris. Rob was coming to Fumina but Chris was being soft and heading off to another ride. We tried to convince him to come with us but to no avail, (probably for the best we heard a rumour he went past the downed ride leader ... See if he reads this lol...)

We arrived at Fumina at 8:30 for a 9:00 start. All geared up and ready to go – well, after showing off the new toy.
We headed to the first hill of the day; I think it’s about 400m into the ride. We all made it up without too much trouble. I got on about the 3rd corner for the day where I did a quick check of the new toy; 2 wheels, no leaks, sounds good = run in hhhmmmm... Not yet.

With the first narrow track just around the corner it was about time for the body to get ready for a workout – I was still thinking I should be in bed.
With lots of good tracks at the ready we were all flowing very well till we came to the first river crossing where a ktm went in but he turned it off in time and didn’t get any water in the engine. I cannot say the same for the rider as he looked very wet from my side of the river..
You know the worst thing about seeing someone go in the drink – when you still have to go through it. You start to ponder where’s the rock they hit? Is there a hole? Is it flowing to fast? Should I walk it? I’ll wait for someone else to go through first, crap! poo! Crap! I’m next... So in I went thinking crap I haven’t rerouted my breather hoses yet but all was good, straight through...

All back on the bikes and we were off again with many of Al’s regular tracks he never ceases to amaze me with new tracks, including Lady Manor Suton track. I’ve seen this track on the map for years, even ridden straight past it but did we ever try it? Nope... Well I know why we never tried to go up it. It’s a monster hill! All loose and rocky with a bit of red clay, I think you need to put this hill in your htfu ride Will.  We came down this hill, it’s one of those hills that you come to and it starts like any downhill where you think this is cool, I’ll hold some pace down the hill but then it turns to scaly rock and gets steeper and off camber. So with most of us getting sucked into the hill it was on for all!
It was like a race start into the first corner after the start line we were all bunched up trying to get that perfect line, well in our case all trying to get around the corner in the scaly off camber rutted hill.
With us all at the bottom, we met another group of riders where we had a chat and a few of the boys having a go at going up with Tayfun, though only one made it all the way up.
By this time I could smell the BBQ waiting for us, we were off to lunch, we took another way than we would normally take due to some new gates and bridgework.
We arrived at lunch at about 1ish. They barby was cooking, the fridge had cold drinks for all and the fuel needed to top the bike up.
We all had plenty of lunch, well except Tim who wanted onions with his snags.
I think Tim might get his onions from Shaz, but not how he thinks... lol

Back onto the bikes, once again about 400m and we were into my favourite track of the day; a nicely over grown track that must go for 3km. It’s a real hoot with a regroup at the end. I think we all agreed we ate one sausage to many...

It was a bit easier on the way back to the cars with some nicely linked flowing tracks the group was moving at a fast pace. It wasn’t too long till we got to the last track for the day where Nathan, Angus and I had an absolute ball with me deciding the bike was run in. I thought it’s time to see what it can do. So with no time to waste I was in hot pursuit after them. I managed to get past Angus but could only keep up behind Nathan, but with Angus in behind it made for great riding for the last leg of the day. We all regrouped and headed back to the cars.

We did 159 km for the day we all had a blast! Thanks Al, another fantastic ride !!!!!
I’ll be back for the next one...

A few of us called in and had tea at the Noojee pub where we met up with some of the boys from Brad’s group and had a catch up of the day’s events.  Lastly off home to get ready to watch Bathurst on Sunday.

Thats not a Husaberg it's a funny coloured KTM .

A bit of both.

Looks good Dave, but what do you get for the, no doubt, extra money over the KTM?

Blue Plastics, Blue Rims, Blue Seat, 11.5 Tank, and the prestigious  name !!! And it's not Orange so it's not a Lemon.

Its got a few extra good bits over its sister (ktm)

Bigger fuel tank
Cartrage front forks, Worth ever cent at this stage
Bash plate
Billet tripple clamps
The rims arnt excell so they might not buckle

It's blue
It was $500 more than the ktm
and im 1 of 30 in the country with one till the 2012 model

The KTM's are 11.5 litres as well..

The 2011 ktm 250 + 300 have a 9.5L tank..
Not sure why they went to it, Not a good move if you ask me.

I thought it was a miss print but if you look at the pic you can see straight over the to of the head and out the other side, On the berg's and the 2010 ktm 's all you can see is the fuel tank on the other side of the head.
Im guessing thats where the extra 2L is...

Why would they go smaller? Glad I got a 2010 then..

Great bike , read allot of good things about it but I didnt realize they were only gunna bring in mimimum numbers dam it ... Question for ya how far did ya get on the 11.5 litres , I know she is tight cause its new but I reckon 11.5 on a 250 smoker would be just about the perfect weight v's distance compramize.

I got 9.5 on my Husky and its just a little shy of being spot on.

On als fumina ride i took 15L we did 159 klm and i think theres still about 2-3L in the bike ive been meaning to drain it and se how much is left..

For 15ltr did you carry 1/2 ltr? I have read the electric starts don't always engage how did yours go? Apparently there are some starter gears in there that need a periodic grease. Did you purchase from Valley?

We had a refuel at lunch so no need to carry fuel...

Yeah the starters are a bit average, I didn't have much trouble with mine on the weekend but row's is pretty average.

They work when they are hot, Its like the shaft size grows a little and then the sprag clutch can grip on the shaft.

Ill see if its still working after the 4-Day  :o
