I will make a start on this report,I was not able to catch Angus all day so I thought I could beat him here.
I won't bore you with a lot of detail,we had a late start no harm done.Had to shorten the morning run after things did not go to plan.
Still a good hard ride in alot of single lane stuff, the river crossings were deep but not ugly.
After lunch was more single stuff and I'am sure Al was trying to break us,we would stop at an intersection and he would say you go up there and I will meet you at the other end.
Thanks again Al and your lovely wive for a great lunch, and for Wade for hiding out at the tail.

Yes a great ride indeed Al and very F#@%ING strenuous for most of it. This is not a ride for the faint hearted, its full on and no stopping for smokers! Clubman riding at its best Wink A bbq lunch was provided by Sharon and Al very much appreciated by all.
Wade

My only pic of the day at our lunch & refuel stop at Tyres

Looks to me like a Big Yellow Dildo !!
Might even be a Strap on job!!

Only a Sex deprived President would see it as a sex toy, not just a Yellow Funnel.

Al's thoughts: Now where did i put that Leather harness for me strap on!!

It's For hard core rides where 1 tank of fuel just aint enough. LOL
A great days ride in what was pretty good conditions on a day of severe weather warnings. Even saw some dust on some of the afternoon tracks.
A great challenge hill included as well where the rutts almost swallow bikes whole. There was no such thing as the right line on that hill but it was a good challenge. I even found that the technique called "Rev the Crap out if it and let the clutch go" does help get the bike up and out of a deep rut with a root through it.

Great Day Al and a good job of linking up the tracks with just a few transport sections.

And it was a great save when the front end went skyward and then backwards. Very entertaining  Cheesy

I just asked the question.

I was happy with Eric's answer!

Fumina 4/9/10
By Angus Boud

With severe weather warnings and media claims of record storms I prep'd my bike for Al's famous Fumina ride. If the detailed weather information on the bom.gov.au site was right Fumina would be a small pocket of Victoria that would not get lashed on Saturday by the predicted storms. Given how often weather forecasters get it wrong I made sure I packed an emergency survival blanket and some matches in my daypack just in case things went wrong - being stuck out overnight I can cope with, having to share bodily warmth with fellow riders for survival is something I don’t wanna experience. As luck would have it the forecasters got it right and we were blessed with great riding weather, the odd shower but not enough to dampen the fun.

Our first rider dropped out before the ride started, Nathan had trailer drama's on the way to Fumina and had to DNF…or rather DNS (Did not Start)

We pulled out the parking area and did the few k's down the road to the first hill climb, the climb is a slippery bugger in the wet and claimed it's first victim. Craig who's fairly new to riding was struggling with the hill so Row decided to head back down and lead him around the road way and meet up with the group after the hill. This plan would have worked great if the ride had been turning left at the top of the hill as it often does, but Al had planned the ride this time going right from the top of the hill. Both directions lead to the road, but the right option takes about an hour, when we got to the road Al went in search of Row and Craig but they were no where to be found. Concluding that given how close they were to the cars and Row's knowledge of the area they could not have been lost but instead must have given up waiting and gone on an easier ride so the group took off and continued. We were approx 15k's into the ride and now 3 riders down.

For those that have not ridden Fumina, it's absolutely awesome but don’t tell anyone as its relatively un-ridden. As you drive from Melbourne swarms of dirt bikers can be found at the servo just before you pull off the freeway, some riders stop at Neerim South, Neerim, and the rest at Noojee….for an extra 25 minutes in the car you arrive at Fumina and are blessed with magic tracks all to yourself. The river crossings were a little higher than usual but not enough to cause any drama with all bikes making the crossings without getting drowned.

We reached lunch somewhat late but it was well worth the wait - Al's better half was waiting for us with a 4wd, bbq, and fuel to top up the bikes. After far too many hot dogs we took off for an afternoon of tight and technical tracks. Michael pulled out at lunch and opted to load his bike onto the 4wd and have a relaxing afternoon instead or riding.

I had not ridden many of the afternoon tracks before and they were even better than the morning, Al has raised the bar of his Fumina ride by including these tracks. Part way through the afternoon Al suggested that a few of us might want to try a hill climb that was a 'little bit harder' - up until this point I have always thought of Al as a really decent bloke but don’t be fooled he has an evil mean streak to him. By the time I made it to the top of that hill I don’t know what was steaming more…me or the bike…it was certainly a good workout.

Eventually we arrived back at the cars after what was a great days riding.

I reckon Al puts on one of the best rides, the tracks and the area are just great. It is a long day and your bike, bike skills, and fitness need to up to it - it's a great ride.

Riders were:
Al Mason       Ride Leader
Andrew Petrie
Rowen Smith
Craig Sutherland
Jeff Davey
Michael Neubeker
Wade Evans -       Tailman
Angus Boud
