I’m going to leave a full ride report up to someon else, I think I did my part for the weekend. I do want to say thanks to Shaz, Alan and Coop for all their efforts for the weekend. As with out the support car this ride could not have happened. Also to everyone who attended, helped and let me lead them through my play ground. Thanks! I found myself a little flusted first up Saturday morning with logging works blocking tracks and then with Jeff’s accident. But once we made lunch and saw Jeff loaded up, I could get back on track. Hope the knee is a quick fix mate and was put back not having you along with all the help you have given me to get this ride ready. And to Tim and Dave for coming to the rescue as my good planning stopped with the trip home, when the Cruiser ran out of fuel between Noojee and Powell Town. Really sorry for the late night!
From my seat I had ball, and woke up this morning ready to go again. I kept checking with the group about how they were traveling? And the complaints were all done behind my back? We didn’t reach all my targets, however I knew they would be near impossible to reach. The group flowed very well and no flats or break downs on the trail with those trails or those ks was unbelievable. I will post up some pics soon.
Cheers Al

Thnks Al, Shaz, Al and Coop for all your work over the weekend.  Can't remember enjoying a ride as much as i did this one.  Awesome we didn't have any problems.

One suggestion.  Call it Fumina 3 day!  2 days riding and one day to recover.  I got to work this morning just before 8 ane I thought I would listen to the news.  Woke up at ten.

Thanks again.

Hi Guys
To start with a big thanks to Al & Shaz, for all work that was put in to get this ride together.
I meet up with Lefty & Darren at Longwarry, and we traveled along the h'way to Traf then turned north towards fumnia.
It's very pretty country up there, and could'n help but to think how I'd love to own a coupla hundred acres up there.
But thats enough dreaming for now.
We found Al's cow paddock / car park no worries, with Shaz doing traffic control duties just one fo the many jobs that she does.
With the mandatory introductions done, we started to prepare
for a big weekend.
I should have known my weekend was domed when the bike  shut down in the first hundred meters.
Apparently the fuel has to be turned on who'd thought
My weekend ended about thirty kays latter with a bung knee,Al gave me directions back to the car,I loaded my self up and drove around to the lunch spot.
Shaz went great lenghs to see I was ok, we raided the eski for an ice pack and I sat back and waited for guys to arrive for lunch.
Now the real entertainment was watching Shaz and her father Alan {who came along for the weekend to help out]arguing as father & daugthter often do.
I'm suprised Shaz was'nt kicking me in the knee as at times  I teamed up with Alan to give her a bit of grief Grin
Once again a big thanks to all,and Al put me on the list for next year.

Where I want to be...

« Reply #6 on: October 20, 2011, 01,13:11 PM »

I’d better get this all down before it slips out of my head!
Saturday started early with me picking up Dave at 6:45am, the trip to the start point took an hour and a half including a fuel stop. We were the last to arrive 15minutes before the set leaving time. I was ready to go as Al started the corner man spiel.
Al had planed to take us west of where the cars were parked but a new logging coup blocking the track put an end to that so we heading east into the Al zone.

As previously reported we had just started on one of the more technical tracks when I came across Jeff sitting next to his fallen bike with a bewildered look on his face, I took it as a look of “how did I get here” and as he didn’t look to be in too much trouble I continued on. It wasn’t till the next regroup that I found out about his knee as he told the group and that he was out. Sorry I didn’t stop to see if you needed a hand Jeff, next time you have to not be so tough and look hurt!

This had cut our group of 11 buy one, the rest of us continued on following Al for the rest of the morning. We had to go around the normal Latrobe River crossing because of its new gutter in the middle, a bit later in the year it should be rideable again.

We rolled up to lunch with about 80km done, fuelled bike with petrol, fuelled riders with salad rolls and soft drink. Jeff had gone back and loaded his bike onto his trailer and met us there to retrieve his stuff from the trailer and head back home to rest his injured knee before seeking medical help. By this stage there was no doubt that he had hurt his knee as we could see the swelling through his jeans. A chain was replaced on Stuart’s (Lefty) bike as its rollers were diapering, a replacement was carried because the chain was, he thought, suspect to begin with. I think he hoped it would last one more ride, but no!

Lunch done it was back out to the Al zone, continuing the fun. We had probably done around 120km when I was thinking that about now there would be some who were looking for the easy way to end the day but that was not the case, everybody was keen to keep on the route that Al was setting, so we did. At the 140km mark I was sure by now the guys who were taking more time to cover the ground would be looking for the easy out but yet again there was not a word of it, just the time waiting at regroups lengthened and then when we were regrouped we were straight back into it with no rest for the last arrivals at their request.

We got to the nights accommodation around 6pm with no bike or people dramas apart from Jeff and a chain. My speedo showed we had covered 168km for the day. As people looked at their bikes some found a few brake pads that needed replacing. Dave had managed to forget to pack a pair of shoes, which had him making the ultimate fashion statement of socks and thongs. Me, I forgot to throw in my jeans after taking them off in the morning. Dave had managed to throw in a spare pair of tracksuit paints so I just wasn’t in jocks all night.

The Accommodation was fairly basic with 13 of us having to share one toilet and a shower but it was no problem. Once Al was in a clean state after a shower he set about feeding the mob, the BBQ was put into action and in no time at all everyone had had their fill. A few stories and a few drinks saw everyone done by around 10:30pm.

Most were up around 7am getting a start on day 2, fuelling bikes and a bit of other maintenance, packing up/cleaning up. Al had the BBQ going again for egg and bacon sandwiches for the mob, again all very satisfied. We were back on the bikes around 9am with Al giving everybody a wake up call with the 7km of track he’d selected straight off. The weather said it was going to be showers for the day and the sky had got cloudy but no real rain for the morning.

Day 2 was going to be a little easier than the first and with lunch reached at Blue rock dam with around 40km done; the signs were looking good for an early finish. Lunch was fresh rolls and a drink as the wind howled off the dam, it even managed to blow my bike over onto Darren’s Husky, I hadn’t put the cap back on the tank after refuelling and managed to spill about 5 litres so it was two refuels at lunch for me. Just as we were getting ready to go the sky wasn’t looking that good and sure enough the rain came, someone said we should seek shelter under nearby cover till it passed which we all did while Sharon and her Old man repacked the trailer getting only a little wet.

Stuart (Lefty) was the man with the lead duties from lunch for the first bit and took us on a track that saw us all struggle with its ruts. It slowed the pace a fair bit with everyone stuck on one hill, we worked together and after a bit we were all going forward again. The second track he took us on he managed to loose his goggles so he and a few others redid the track again but with no luck, his goggles having been taken by the bush.

I’d spoken to Al during breakfast about how he was going to finish the day and how finishing with Kennys spur is always a good thing on his normal rides and then the last track would be the one he normally starts his rides with, Mine shaft hill.
And that’s how we did finish back to the cars with about 105km for day two at I think around 5pm.
Thanks to Al for his and his helpers efforts for the weekend.

Yeah, well done Tim. I was hoping someone would post up the names of the tracks before I put my two cents worth in.. Big high five to the Mason clan for putting on such a well run and active weekend, takes a lot to organise a two day but it was done with finesse and aplomb. Plenty of the following and in no particular order } thin tracks, fat tracks, ups and downs, laughter, stories, food, drink, bogs, logs and snoring. Yes, I new it would be a challenge for me but, with thanks, all others were encouraging and assisted where necessary. Tim put it well "Al's zone" and there he played for the best part of two days. I brought my mate Darren (Homer) along and he still hasn't stopped talking about it. Loved it and cant wait for the next one. . He cant remember the last time he hurt so much after a weekend. I was amazed all the bikes went so well considering the pace and distance traveled. Second high five to Dave for his help with my bike and for the others for making it a great weekend. Pauly all the way from Oxford Street, Angus and Wayne (gun riders from Bendigo) Darren and his mate Cam. Tim and Dave (man of knowledge) Enjoyed it immensely and cant wait for the next one. All hale Al Mason..

Lefty.

I forgot to mention Jeff, gee he gave that 200 a go...Keep us updated with the knee Jeff and good luck !!!

Cheers Lefty for the kind words! You should pat yourself on the back mate, you decided to step up to the challenge and have a go. And a go you did, the track you lead, had me stumped how you got through the rut? Homer is more than welcome out on the trail anytime, and he put in a big effort as tailman. Al
