The young bloke & I attended the "Stockmans Rally" last weekend.I thought some feedback might be of interest......
The weather turned out to be perfect. Around 450 riders. Organisation was excellent, the starting procedure, track arrowing & strategic placement of "helpers" could not be faulted. Easy & Hard options. Even the post ride "free" hamburger was a beauty !! 2 loops, the first about 70klm & the second about 45klm.
Most importantly, the trails were awesome !!, some cracking good long uphills that had plenty of riders gasping for oxygen. Some nice little creek crossings...... "big enough to be intersting, but not "bike drowners".There was some loamy stuff, some slippery clay, some rocky sections... a bit of everything really. AND LOW & BEHOLD SOME DSE APPROVED SINGLE TRACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! which was some of the slipperiest, greasiest, Oh my goodness I'm out of control, track that I've been on for a long time ! At one point, there was a really nasty little uphill with loose , wet slippery football sized rocks. There was a line through it, but I was a bit close to the bloke in front , so when he faultered, I had to resort to plan "b".......... which wasnt a plan at all ! I just headed for a slightly drier rocky bit............ only problem was, that is where all the "strategically placed helpers" were standing.......... You should have seen them scatter when the maniac on the 150 blasted toward them !!! ...........Sorry blokes, but stopping wasn't an option !
Overall, the Stockmans Rally is a good event definetly worth attending.
