Old Banger Ride at Neerim by Wade Evans (Evo)

Hi all just a quick report on Wills second old banger at Neerim South yesterday. After a cold night our ride day  turned out very sunny almost warm day as Will lead us out of the DSE carpark down a wet and boggy track, unfortunately for me I chose a bog hole deeper than the drum brakes on IT200 leaving me with virtually no brakes at all for next 5km, the next couple of down hills were very exciting.......remember that feeling? Wink
The ride flowed through some nice nice narrow tracks with ruts, logs and more bog holes connected by some more open tracks where I would be listerning for the distinctive sound of Mats CR500 on the gas leaving a shower of debris as he passed by.
After short break we moved on where the group were riding out of dip up an embankment Frank had over balance situation and fell awkwardly herting his wrist. After getting his bike off him Rachelle being a nurse checked out Franks now swelling wrist and strapped it up. Frank continued and completed the ride with a broken wrist as he found out at Dandenong hospital later in the day Roll Eyes Your one tough man Frank that would have hert! Get well soon mate.
Climbing up what be the last hill of the day Wills ever reliable XR600 suddenly lost all drive. It was thought it may have sheared a drive key inside that huge gearbox.
Jeff would have the job of towing it back and Mat steering it. Not as easy as it seems but these 2 guys did a great job getting the big XR back to the carpark, well done.
So thats how it ended up, I enjoyed my first ride at Neerim South Will knows the area well and picked some great tracks
for us, thanks mate. Also thank you Phil for your tailmaning for the day.

Thank you one and all for coming along and making it a great day and all the help for getting the old XR back to the carpark. I had a great time both riding the XR and then Mats CR500 now with working brakes. It was great to have a few visitors along with there great old bikes and hopefully we can encourage them along next time we do an old bangers ride. The lunch and bench racing session was also a hit with all but Wade attending lunch. Thanks once again to all. Will

Great report & pic's Wade, I was looking forward to this day having fitted some bar risers I was dying to try them out, I was very happy with them, I only went up 20mm but made all the difference didn't get arm pump this time, all I have to do now is get the rear brakes working, new disc & pads should do the trick, when the ride went bad fore me, I was very happy that Rachelle was on the ride being a nurse &took very good care of me, a big thanks Rachelle, after she fixed me up Will asked me if I could still ride & which way I wanted to go, he told me this way has got a big rocky hill to get up, & that way is the easy way, I picked the easy way, somehow we still ended up at the rocky hill & saw Will stopped half way up, so I thought to myself I don't want to have to man handle the bike up there, so gunned it to get a good bit of momentum & the old Kato took me straight up to the top Grin every body made it up with out much trouble, the able blokes got a rope from somewhere & got Wills bike to the top, all in all it was still a great day, I really can't complain after riding & racing for 41 odd years I've only broken a thumb & now my wrist not bad I reckon, It was great to see so many old bikes there I hope you all can come again on the next one thank you all for a great day, well until it went all wrong for me,thanks Will for leading the ride & Phil for weeping, see you again on the next ride which will be in about 6 weeks

ps typing with my left hand really sucks Grin

That's no good Will, but look on the bright side with the new clutch it'll be a real mono machine  Grin
