The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men.
I don't normally make a plan of my rides, just assess the riders on the day and take it from there. However, I had hoped we could get a bit further into the Black Range area before lunch, I havn't done the Mohican and Whiting tracks for so long I would have to get the map out to find them. It was a pretty easy plan, skip around behind the pub to warm the up, cross the bitumen in to Rouches road, skirt the western edge of the pine forests and work my way up in the general direction of Black Range Rd.
It wasn't to be. One of the riders had a minor off within minutes of leaving the carpark and did not want to continue. He retired to the cars while we waited for Rob to see him back and rejoin us. We had lost time!!. While we were waiting I noticed a new track that just begged exploration, we would have a quick look. It got a bit boggy before we decided it would be better explored on another day. More time lost!!.
One of the Yamahas was giving considerable trouble on starting and by the time we had got to the Narbathong plantations it was clear to me that we would not make my goals for the day.
The morning was progressing and the sky was becoming ominous. We tried a couple of my challenge hills and made our way north on the eastern side of the plantation.  The rain followed, just drippy at first as we made a rush towards Buxton.  The pub was an oasis in disguise for some wet and hungry riders, plenty of parking and a warm fire inside, though I thought my wedgies and squash were a bit expensive.
We had arrived in the nick of time, the rain bucketed down and with that I saw the enthusiasm of the group draining away with equal gusto. A executive decision was made, we would wait for a break and dash for the cars.
The  Triangle was relatively dry and a great hoot, but it was not to last. At the corner of Peake and Pitts track the rain was falling where they could both see and smell the bitumen, and the Man from Snowy River would not have wielded them.
We got to the cars at about 3.00 having done about a 100 k for the day, little of what I had planned, but a good day non the less, and a few thing I must follow up on in the future.
Thanks Fella's for your continuing support,

Hi Phil, thanks for leading a great ride and to Rob for being tailman for the day and for his persistence with the YZ. The guy on the YZ (sorry can't remeber your name) did well for his second time on the bike.

See you next time, cheers Colin

Yes ,it was a good day , it was my second ride with AMTRA . Thanks again guys . I was counting down to my next ride but found out on Monday . That I have a fractured bone in my ankle . I did it the week before on the family day ride . So anyway ,it sounds like I'm going to miss the next few .  Cheers , Mark
