My first ride I have lead...done and dusted and may I say...very successful.
Johnny and I as usual had an early start to the day...and we love it..we met some of the gang in Traralgon and Marls met the others at Woosdside to convoy everyone to the off loading point..where some of the others were already there and getting ready. Within no time at all we had 21 riders all keen as mustard to get started for some fun. With the ride briefing (my first...and was nervous)...all taken care of we hit the trails...as the ride leader I didnt get to see much of what was going on...but each time we stoppped there was lots of chit chat and laughter...so figured all was good. The morning loop was approx 40 k's and flowed really well as Johnny was pointer man and was putting 2 to a corner and even making up corners...just to keep it flowing well....this really worked well as we had a couple of beginner level riders and wanted to make sure it went well for them...after all, thats who it was all about. At our last re-group before heading back for lunch we had a hiccup with Rocket..his bike failed him and Rossi had to go and rescue him with a tow rope and slowly putt back to the cars (fortunatley it wasnt very far)....but for any fun and games and carnage that happened i will leave to anyone that was in the pack and saw it to put their take of events up.
Lunch time...everyone was having heaps of fun...including our newer riders...so i was happy with that. Sadly at this point though we lost Rossi and Rocket, as they had travelled together and Rockets bike was a done deal...they loaded up the bikes and headed home for the afternoon...really look forward to seeing you guys out there again very soon...thank you both so much for coming out to support my day..i appreciate it so much...and Rocket...take heart mate ...you will get better in time  ;)After lunch we changed  things around to keep it interesting....Johnny became ride leader...Marls had been our wonderful Tail in the monring and Paul kindly put his hand up for the afternoon stint....and we had some more fun tracks to do that we hadnt done in the morning...so off we went...oh wow..it was so much fun...a little carnage as Marls tried to negotiate a tree limb that had laid itself across the track...the result was ..bike and Marls - not upright-..so there was Marls laying down..waving her hand around frantically to make sure no-one came around the bend and ran her over..alas, she was safe, it was me who came around and saw her...with some help from Phil...we got Marls and her bike over the obstacle and on her way when i decided..well im not riding over it if thats the result..i will walk it over instead...same result...bike went down..Phil to the rescue...again...so with me and bike on our way the path was clear for everyone else. Had to negotiate around another bit of tree...missed my turn into the track and landed headfirst into the bushes...stuck...its ok Al Mason to the rescue...i get out of the mess im in and turn around to find about 12 riders all sitting there lookin at me and waiting..and someone with their hand on the horn... Grin..oh but no pressure Bob...just when your ready mate  Grin...funny. Another spill that I missed but i hear Emma has footage..my beloved Johnny took a tumble..will leave Emma to tell her side but from all accounts...was very funny...although he is a bit sore today...so we go gentle on him...well for a short while at least  Grin...Dont you just love it when someone cruises past you...dissapears around the bend...which is to the left...and by the time you get to the same bend, that same person who passed you a few moments back is now pulling their bike out of the bush....but from the right hand side of the road...the big skid mark in the road is a dead give away...well done T.J..We hit a track that Marls just loves and knows really well and Johnny gave the lead to Marls for this bit and she was like a demon possessed...she really put her new KTM through the paces....you go girl.
All in all we had a fantastic day...all the people that travelled  (especially from a distance) helped to make this what it was. Without you there wouldnt be a ride...so i am so grateful to all of you for supporting Bobs first ride. You were there to help and assist where needed, and i beleive you all had a hand in that, so thank you.
The day finished at about 4, which is a nice time for a beginner ride, although we ended up doing approx 93 k's for the day...so a top effort by everyone. A special thanks to those who helped me put this together. Days like this cant happen without support. By the way Ted..i did think of you when i went out again for another ride on Sunday.. Grin
Big thanks to...
Marls and Paul..for going Tail.
Johnny for being pointer man, then lead rider.
Emma ...for what i beleive should be some great footage.
Big thanks Al Mason, Rossi and Father Ted for their advice encouragment and pats on the back.
Shaz..for the wheel bump...that'll teach me to not get over the log quicker  Grin..you rock!
The girls...Shaz, Stacey, Marls and Emma..so nice to have gals ..next time we can try and outnumber the boys  Grin.
I had a great day and cant wait to do it again.
Major thanks as usual to my terrific husband Johnny...for the weekends you have come out with me to put this loop together and encouraging me and allowing me to be perhaps a bit too excited at times...oh boy folks..hes a patient man Smiley
thats it from me...cant wait to hear the other reports as there was stuff i missed..lots of love...Bob xx Grin

How great a day was it !!
Arrived with a little help from Marls, thanks, as I would have been hopelessly lost if you hadn't waited for me.
Arrived to find a fairly sizeable contingent of new and old, male and female, all riders really happy to be there.
Great job Bob getting it all together.
Didn't know what to expect as the area is new to me and was keen to get into it. The ride briefing said it all, some sand, some water, some dust, some whoops but most of all some smiles and some fun. The flow of the ride was excellent with John co-ordinating the corner man positioning. 40ks in the morning with everyone getting through unscathed, one dead bike and a sad end to the day for Rocket. The afternoon saw a change in leader/tailman but it didn't change the flow or the fun. John, how on earth did you find time to have a lie down. Emma thought it was funny though. Can't remember the last time I laughed and smiled so much over a ride day.
Well done Bob, Marls, John, Paul for lead/tail duties. Well done to all the ladies that rode, great to see you on the trail.

11 out of 10 Grasshopper!!!!

Didnt see anyone without out a smile on their face all day. Well apart from Rocket, but that was the bikes fault. I was on standby to play tailman for the day if Marls had had enough, and plan to follow Shaz around to help her get used to her new ride. And was planning on floating through the pack to help out were ever needed. Very easy day as everyone copped very well, including the soft sand sections. So to all the level 1's there on the day well done, see some more sesoned riders struggle around those tracks! Apart from an easy day from me i had fun, which is a feather in your cap Bob, as a Level 1 day that keeped even me happy is a dam good effort. Was also great to meet some new people and have a crew that understood what the day was about. By help, advice and making the day pleasant for the novices, not filling them in and letting them take their lines. (no matter how frustrating!!) Marl's and Pauly thanks for tail duties and to all the riders of the day thanks.
Till the next one grasshopper, Al

Picked Rocket up at 6, in car park at Woodside by 8.30 after stopping for a coffee and chat with Marls in Yarram.  All excited to get going, Rockets first ride on the Drz, is trying it out before purchasing , come on Bob, stop all this chitty chat, let's get ridding... 1st corner said Drz has had enough, refuses to start with the button, maybe something to do with the size of the rider in the saddle, so a push start is the way, boy, that was hard work says me, I give some ridding advice to Rocket, try and keep the front wheel on the ground, Peter R, I think I've found you another rear wheelie freak!! Any way the Drz refused to play nice so a lunch time finish for us today.
Summary,, another well organized day by Bob and Johnny, the level 1 pace was surprising fast, the group of riders was the right group for this ride and we need to get another one in before Woodside dries out. Thanks to Marls for doing tail, who would of thought?? and to Al for the use of the tow rope to get the Drz back to the car park.
WELL DONE BOB Grin

Well done Sandra on leading your first ride and John for selecting a great range of tracks and terrain.

The weather was great, the sand was firm and the puddles were not too deep. A perfect blend of tracks for the Level 1's although most were going a lot faster than I expected.

Good job we were warned about the square faced erosion mounds that tried to launch you vertically then drop you on your head (Zeb knows the track I mean). They were almost impossible to see in the shadows.

I'll be heading back to Woodside for sure...

The Ingredients for A Perfect Ride at Woodside
A Tail Woman’s Story:

1. Early starts or distance do not matter, just set the alarm clock for 4am but get up at 4.30 & always run 5 minutes late.

2. Compulsory bakery stop at Yarram on the way through for brekky

3. Arrive right on time to pick up stray punter alias Oobgolfer at check point 2.

4. Set Temperature to a perfect 18 degrees, in a slightly cool to warm forest, partly cloudy with plenty of Sunraysia!

5. Try to arrive way ahead of start time, so can have compulsory gas-bag with fellows AMTRA Riders, take the usual paparatzi shots, unload all the shizen & then pile on all the 20kg of protection gear & bling, oops….can’t forget the first aid bum bag & of course, I am NOT  ready in time…20 pairs of eyes are watching…the natives are getting anxious.

6. Sandra aka Bob our fearless ride leader for the day, like a seasoned master chef, has a preach & dishes out our courses for the day, yum, this is gonna be one hell of a ride  Cool

7. Ladies & Gentlemen, start your engines……Al, my shadow Tail Man, brings my Black Beast to life, while I’m madly trying to get it all together…the smell of gasoline & distant 2 smokers fills the air & we are now ready to hit it…....the sand that is.... the wonderful sands & woops & bog holes & tracks of Woodside….Your Dinner Is Served….

Now that I have the tail woman feather in my helmet, I must say it is a very rewarding experience to help people where needed; for once I’m at the back for a reason Wink..…hey Rocket, bet you didn’t think I ‘d have a tow rope or the WD40 on me ha ha..  Thanks Paully though, for for taking over the tail duties in the arvo loop & allowing me to unleash the ‘demon’ in the bike & ride “like a cut cat” Wink
Thanks Sandra & Johnny for leading & organising the ride; I had a Jam ‘Ball’ Donut of a time & here are a few early morning pics of the day.
Cheers…Marls
