A few of us met Phil at the Healesville Bakery at 7:30 for a coffee and donut and then cruised up to the meeting point where there was already quite a few people unloading.

Jumped out of the nice warm ute to unload and just about froze solid as the wind hit me! So straight away chucked the Jacket and gloves on like everyone else.

We got the corner man talk from Phil and the reminder to drop the tyre pressures as it was going to be a slippery day and we were off. I think we started with 23 riders; if someone has the ride list, please put it up.

We headed up Monda Rd with Phil leading and Chris tail man, just a nice and easy start with a few options to cut some corners on some muddy hills, until we stopped at the bottom of a hill where a few people had a go and the conservative people (like myself) took the easier option around the hill.
That kind of riding continued for a while with few pretty boggy hills, but as long as you kept the momentum up you were sure to make it.

We started to do a few u-turns as Phil decided that the tracks were going to be a bit too slippery. When, I was following the bike behind Phil, another rider came around a bend. Phil stopped to tell him to turn around but the guy behind Phil, who was keeping his eye on the bloke coming the other way, ran into the back of Phil and cleaned them both up. After we checked the guys and got the bikes back off the deck, it appeared that Phil had obtained a bit of an injury to his hand.

So a couple of blokes rode back to the cars to get a trailer, some stayed with Phil and the rest of us started doing a few loops where we found a nice hill to tackle. I have uploaded a few videos of it on YouTube, checkout videos under the username Freddy2305, or title AMTRA Marysville July 09.

After a play on the hill we went back to Phil who was still waiting, so a few guys went into Narbethong (I think) for some fuel but didn’t return for a while as I believe a few bikes got a bit water logged; maybe someone can share what happened. While they were out, Phil was picked up the few of who were left decided to crank up a fire and toast some marshmallows while we waited for the group to return...

Once they returned, Chris took lead to get us back to the car park with Willy now on tail man duty (I hope I got the names correct). This ride back to the cars was the most enjoyable part for me, over/under fallen trees, at one stage we were all laying the bikes over and dragging them along the ground to get them clear. There was a tricky little up and over around an obstacle at the end, but with plenty of guys to lend a hand we all got up and a short squirt back down Monda road we were back.

I would like to thank Phil for once again putting on a great ride, I believe in end it turned out to be a broken thumb? Hope it heals quickly for you Phil. And it was great to see everyone doing what they could to lend a hand to get Phil back and continue the day to get everyone back.

Cheers,

Freddy.
