RIDE REPORT
RAWSON

By David Smith

Well as usual it was a last minuet decision to go for a ride on the weekend
So I whacked it on the web and sure enough I got a few punters
Told them where and what we were going for, in the end there were seven of us.

9:00 at the Rawson pub all geared up we headed of at 9:20ish
The first hill or should I say slight incline there was a fall with a broken leaver
About 100meters later Tyson went a bit hot into the corner and washed it out on the slippery clay,
After a few tracks we hoped onto the roadside tracks, once at the dam we had a look at the hill at the base on the wall car park.
Sad to say the doses been there and made it like a highway but one of the XR250s didn’t make it up the hill, he ended up with the bike upside down for a bit and lost a heap of oil out the breather hose into the air filter.
So rolled it down the hill and checked the oil because a lot drained out.
There was nothing on the stick so one of the other boys went back to get some oil that was in the car.
The rest of us went for a ride and on the way back we went to look at the power station from the lookout bit witch was good to see, ive been there heaps but never actually taken the time to have a look at the dam wall and the power station.
Off we went back to check on the oil status just as I got there Tyson pulled up with a bottle of oil with the bike toped up and all but t2 there I wondered have they dropped it in the river?
So we headed back to the river and there not there so we kept going to find the tail man had bike problems.
The poor old dr250 had no spark L
So off with the fuse cover check the fuses and ignition switches
No faults with the switches fuses were all good
Wriggled all the wires tried everything possible with limited tools
In the end we decided to go and get the 4x4 to get the bike
We split into 2 groups.
Brad and I went back to get the 4x4 and the others took the map and did a bit of a loop
They went to look at Fulton’s river with not too much surprise it was flowing nice and high
Not too sure where they went after that but we caught up with them back at the pub

As for brad and i once we got to the pub we got a 6 pack of jimmy’s and got out of our gear had a chat with some of the locals and headed off to get Damien
Well my new hilux had never really been off-road let alone me done any 4x4ing
So threw the river and over a few hills I eventually got there.
Damien proved the reason to be prepared with the basic survival gear out in the bush
As you all know it was about an 11deg day and it got bloody cold just standing there
He had one of those spark things you hit together.
Even with the wet muddy wood he still got a fire going to keep warm
Just a bit of petrol and dunny paper to help start it
Once there we put out the fire properly and we loaded up the bike
Put some extra straps on it and it still moved going up the hill from the lookout
We got back to brad hooked up the trailer and off we went back to the pub
We found the others still there in their gear waiting for the keys they put in Damien’s backpack.
There’s 4 of them sitting the cold no clothes no money to get a beer at the pub
Quite a funny sight

Good note don’t put you keys ion the other guys car cos if he looses his you don’t have yours either

All in all not a bad day not too many km’s done but good fun had by all
