OK, I'm the first to admit that starting a ride at 7:30 has knobs on it!  Working backwards, means that I woke at 4:15, and left home at 5:00, allowing 2 hours travel to get to Tanjil by the alloted meet time of 7:00.  Bloody ugly!

It seems that a few people had pulled the pin, so 13 of us took off at about 7:45.

As promised, the ride was pretty leisurely, with most trails being flat, smooth and loamy.  A few 'hills' were presented to us, (some with some nasty ruts), that proved a problem for some of the crew.  But all in all, the group kept a good pace and handled most things that Will threw at us.  Jason (a newbie), was battling with a DR4 that had a stuffed battery, and he had to push start it every time we (or he) stopped.  He struggled on a few of the trails, and Bill was kept busy helping him out when necessary.  I was riding the PE, so needless to say I had a hassle free day!

The use of radios throughout the day proved to be a good thing, especially when we were returning to the cars, when a call came over that Jason had had an off, and things weren't looking good.  We decided to back track, so made our way s l o w l e y in the reverse direction to the problem.  Unfortunately, we didn't hear the call that said all was good, and the tail markers were continuing on, and consequently Will and Dennis had a close encounter of the XXL kind!  no real damage, other than pride, so we regrouped and headed back to the cars.  We got back at around 12:30, having riden around 110 k's.

We packed up and headed off to the Erica pub, where a hearty lunch, cold beers, bench racing (and Bob) were waiting for us.  All was good fun, and most left by around 2:00 for the tiresome drive home.

Thanks to Wilbur for running the ride and to Bill for tailman duties.  Thanks to the rest of the crew for making it a fun day, I had a ball!

Thank you to everyone who made the effort to turn out for an early start, and a big sorry to the few who didn't make it, you really missed out on a hoot of a ride, with rain falling on Thursday the trails were premo and at that time of the morning who the Roos and foxs are up. The only other humans we came across was a large group of 4bees.
My ride started a few days before when I decided that I should take the 525 and chain saw, the chain saw holder I made last year need a couple of modifications so I spent a couple of hrs in the shed on Thursday night making a new main bracket and cleaning the air filter as I had not done this after the Cheynes Bridge ride. A quick look over and all was good to go.
Got home Friday night and rolled it off the bench to find a small pool of engine oil, a quick investigation and the side cover gasket was weaping oil, with a dinner date with Moo and Hame no time to fix it so it was out with the old 300 but that needs rear wheel bearings so it was of with the 525 rear wheel and onto the 300 and we are good to go.
My alarm went of at 4.45 and outa bed at 5.15 and on the road at 6.10 and arrived about 7.10 to some very happy members and some grumpy ones owe this time sucks, you know the sorta things.
As Serge said around 7.45am we were off down Wild Cow Trk and right into Ortons and left and left into Dwyers Tk and into Mervs and onto Cervi Rd and upto Rock RD and into Burns and into Good hope were we made a left into one of my favorite disused tracks which Im not sure what its called but when we got stock behind a 4bee later in the day on there was no room for passing, but the hills were dry at this time of the year were in winter its a different story but the rooty ruts did catch a few out but about 1.2hr every one was up the top of the worse of it so it was onwards to Benyon Creek Rd and right into morgan Tk and then right into Delpretes Rd and left into the link tk to Tanjil Bren and then down the blue metal for a few Klms and left into Ti Tree Rd where we found a medium tree down blocking the trail, so it was up the inbankment and around, this proved to be a point of entertainment for some of us as first Ted forgot that moment was a good friend and he stalled half way up and stumbled backwards and to one side for a rest. Then Darren had a go and did the same but decided to check the dencity of the foulage on the other side, he then lined up for another go and got up but as you turn left almost straight away there is a rabbit hole that your front wheel just about goes into so he sees this and just drops himself and the bike, more chuckles. A quick rest and we were of and then left into Depretes and then right into Morgan Tk to do it the other way around and then back for a regroup at Beynon Creek Rd.
At this point it was 11am so it was time to head back so we could make the Pub for 1pm, we headed back down that tight trail from the other end and right into Good Hope once we got to Burns only about 4 or 5 of us were there and I had a quick look at the map and headed a bit further and when I stop to have another look at the map Gary arrived to tell me that Jason had come of his bike and hurt his wrist and they could not get the bike going. As my radio was not working I asked Darren to radio ahead and tell them that we were heading back. I was taking it easy as I did not know exactly were they where, it was a long trek back at around 8klms, but on one LH bend I was faced by one big D Menace on my LH side of the trail so I swerved to the Right and with his eye balls popping outa his goggles he swerved to his left and we met with one hella of a big broadside, when I saw him coming towards me in the slide I tucked my left arm into my ribs rolled my shoulder down as if I was about to make a tackle and he bounced of me and of his bike into a big roll and I jumped of my bike to the right side.
What seamed like a few minutes but infact was only a few seconds I gathered my bearings thinking mmmm no pain am I dead or whats going on, then I could hear Menace whinging like a bitch on heat so I knew not dead and no pain this is gota be ok. I got up and headed for Menace it was at this point that Fatter Ted had pulled up after witnessing it going troppo what are you blokes doing with a few swear words, god bless u Fatter for caring so much, any help Menace up and dusted him of with a quick man hug, thank the feck for that, it could have ended much worse than it did we both agreed, for some reason they had not got the message that we were heading back, thatss ok the only damage was a broken front guard and a scar on my headlight shroad and as Serge said a little dent in Pride, buy this time everyone was there so quick check on Jason and informed him that we would hit Tanjil Bren for a cruisy ride back and then right into Orton's and left into Wild Cow and we were back at the cars about 12.15. Quick load up and change and of to Erica Pub for lunch arriving about 1pm.
Lunch was good and it was great to sit and hear from the others on the days events and just glad to see everyone in one piece. By 2.15 it was time for me to hit the road for the 1hr 10min drive home. Lets do it again soon ok till then stay safe , Wilbur.

Thanks Will for a great day out. Maybe a little too many road sections but with perfect weather, good blokes to ride with and great trail conditions there is little reason to complain. Thanks also to Bill for doing tailman all day. Jason certainly kept him on the hop with his battery/chain issues and misadventure near the end of the ride. I'm trying to encourage him to join AMTRA and he may do so now that he sees the value in having great support whilst out in the bush.
On a separate note, it brings back the message about bike preparation. If it isn't up to the task or needs a bit of work then don't go out there. Fix it first and make the day for everyone.
Enjoyed the laughs had on the trail and in the pub. I'll certainly be there for the next Pubman.
Cheers,
Gary

it was a good day out Willy. thank you for making me get up so early and seizing the day.

awesome weather, dudes, tracks, stacks and parma.

there was only two rutts all day, one grabbed my front tyre and promptly dragged me to the ground. that woke me up! Cheesy

Jason, an AMTRA first timer, rode clean off the road and found the only creek crossing of the ride Grin

with all the radios on the ride, you'd think someone  Roll Eyes would have told me the leaders were backtracking before i managed to give Will a mid-track man-hug  Cheesy Cheesy

it was like this Cheesy
http://youtu.be/Vumpo9e-48s?t=24s

hitting Will was rather soft but bouncing off the big man and hitting the ground hurt and took the wind outta me and the juice outta my ribena.
thought i'd done a rib but its all good today.
might have just put my back out temporarily instead.

its all good. sometimes sh!t just happens hey Cheesy
i couldnt think of a better man to crash into anyway Grin

pub was great and the banter was hilarious. thanks to all of ya's.

a massive thanks goes out to Bill, for neglecting to inform me of potentially hazardous future events, his porn-mo, for the beers of guilt at the pub and also for nodding off on the way home like a true old fart.
he is the ultimate sweep rider! Wink Cheesy Cheesy

Many thanks Will for an excellent morning of riding. Nice and cruisy just as promised. Happy to do this loop again for sure. Only one small off in the ruts of a damp gully – spent the rest of the day picking blackberry thorns out of my bottom  Cheesy. Brought along a mate Greeny who had a ball – I’m pos he will sign up for membership after such a good day. Thanks to Bill for tail & all others for a great day. Cheers, Greg.
