There were 16 riders yesterday a mix of level one and level two's upwards skill sets.
The ride conditions were pretty good with a cold wind blowing.
Split the groups up with Nathan and Peter taking the L2's and myself and Zeb taking the L1's.
Went down the narrow track to the old Stanley homestead as one group which was a challenge for the L1's who all got through, thanks guys for your efforts it was tough going.
Lunch and refuel at cars and then off again as two groups these tracks were well suited to each groups ride level and people enjoyed the arvo session.
Back to the cars at 3.45, 108.5Km on my ODO.
Unfortunately Oscar has a bad crash on Ginter Rd near the intersection of Higginbotham Tk and went to Hospital.
He has a broken left arm at the elbow where the radius and ulna have split and the elbow ball has come off and is well out of position. Oscar is home now, surgery is expected Tuesday when the swelling goes down.
Thanks to everyone for their assistance and patience; wish you a healthy recovery Oscar.

Brad & Nathan, Thanks for the great ride, perfect weather for some great slick track riding. LOL I was wondering how Oscar was traveling as he was sure he was up for more riding for quiet a while after his off! At least he was looked after well by all the riders. Some of whom took happy snaps of Oscar in his silver toga! Anyway Oscar hope you heal up quick mate. All the guys were great to ride with, Nathan's group had some laughs at each other. We managed to drag Zeb into our group, which he finally admitted was fun. Mate that last up hill on the triple valley track was only conquered with some great persistence. NICE!  Our group moved a a nice pace & Nathan had a great handle on what was going to be passable in the slick conditions & what wasn't. We had a chance to play on a nice little jump out on the tracks, it was a hoot! I recommend some time playing there for anyone who hasn't tried them before. I should have a video up some time soon, depending on the footage that is usable! LOL Thanks again. Pete Link for first video

Thanks Brad and Nathan I had the best of both worlds yesterday cruisie morning and thougher arvo , the track with the three massive rollers on it was a great lesson in clutch control and momentum just wish i had a bit more of both .... Dont know who got the biggest shock OSCAR or me when i spotted him he didnt look to good but thank god the injury was no where near what it looked like , we had two excellent first aiders on the ride which was reasuring for Oscar as much as the rest of the group thanks Peter Monty you sure know how to take the edge off a tense moment ...... Get well soon Oscar so we can get back out on the trails.

Oh yeah awhile ago I relented on the Husky only position but Aaron didn't come after the multiple requests.
We had 8 Huskies and 8 bitza's on the day; just riding is what its about not bitching.

Thanks for a well organised ride Brad. My first with the club and my first bash at trail riding. It was a baptism of fire, actually it was more a baptism of the deep puddle.
Kudos to both you and Zeb who were very patient with my non starting CRF, I checked the valves today as everyone suggested and you were all correct!!!
Ending on a serious note I was very impressed with the way Oscar's accident was handled, hope you get well soon mate!

Thanks Brad and Nathan for leading the bunches. That that section you took us through at the start was ace Nathan and it seems little bit familiar  . When i saw Zeb coming the other way and stopped Nathan and let the others through i thought i was fine to continue but he yelled at me so i turned around and thats when i found out that my cousin Oscar had a nasty off and i only heard that he was knocked out and in a bad way and with RAR experience i was thinking the worst. The funny thing is its easily to adjust to seeing someone messed up clinging onto life but when its someone you know the stomach knots up and an eery chill runs throughout the body. When i went up to him he was conscious wrapped up in a blanket and i was told his elbow was stuffed. He said that he remembers getting a tank slapper and trying to control it then next thing is he woke up to people standing over him yelling at him. Those who looked after him sorry i dont know any names but you all did a fantastic job and you know who you are! It was an 8k ride back to the car with Brad so i could get my car and go and collect Oscar and his bike. I was toldt that Maroondah hospital was the best major hospital nearby to take him so off we went. To my suprise the only injury annoying him on the voyage was the graze on his right hand other than the road works we encountered a few times. It was about midday when we arrived at the hospital and he was taken in straight away and put in a neck collar layed down and told not to move. A scan not long after revealed no head or spinal injuries so that was a massive relief. The xray result was no big suprise which revealed a chunk of bone in his elbow had snapped off and was sitting 2cm out of place and would need surgery to install some scaffolding to hold it together. Funny thing is he had the same injury on the same elbow 7 years ago and required surgery that time. However nurse mentioned that with the swelling operating on it on the day most likely wouldnt happen. I left the hospital at about 3:30 and the bone surgeon still hadnt come in but i was on the phone to his father throughout the rest of the day. A second xray was taken and was eventually discharged just after 7pm. He is seeing a surgeon tomorrow (Monday) and surgery will most likely take place on Tuesday when the swelling is expected to have gone down. The only pain he felt on his elbow was when the nurse was washing the graze on it even moving it around caused no pain for him. He has a grazes throughout his body including his chin which has swollen up a little. He is feeling very sore all over today but is in high spirits. He cant wait for his elbow to heal so he can jump back on the bike again so yes he is thinking about his next ride already. Kurnol its a Honda we have learned to expect it , dont sweat it about the patience , when i strated I had no skills , an over powered bike that was to tall and had a kick start with no button to boot . now the guys that put up with me are the definition of patience you rode well .... But I still smile when i think about you in that puddle i still cant work out how you got so wet it wasnt that deep .... See you again soon |
