I arrived at the Glenburn roadhouse at around 7:45 to find 4 people already there chatting and ordering coffee.At 8:15 we were off to the start point to gear up and get going.
With the ride brief out of the way, we hit the trails!
The first few tracks were nice and open and flowing and everyone was moving along nicely. The first regroup was at Stanley Homestead and everyone had warmed up nicely.
We continued on along some damp and tacky trails which were great fun, then things tightened up a fair bit with a technical downhill through a small creek and up and out the other side, only a few needed to be helped through the creek.
we continued on to regroup at a clearing where Rob C told me the front sprocket on his 390 Berg was stripped, but being a well prepared rider he had a spare sprocket with him and he set about changing it while i took those willing to a challenge hill.
The challenge hill is now easier than it used to be and all made it up without to much fuss.
We got back to where Rob was to find his bike fixed and ready to go, time was getting on a bit so we decided to head back to the cars for lunch.
I took of and got to the bottom of the track and waited and waited and no one was anywhere to be seen or heard, i slowly headed back up the track to find a corner man mix up had sent abot 9 riders down a track that i had no intention of taking this group on.
Leaving 2 people on the corner and telling no to let anyone else go through, i set off down the track. This track is very technical and has lots of logs down across it and it's fairly physically demanding. I soon caught up to some of the guys and told them that they had to keep going and to help each other out to get through to the top, i kept going to find another group of five riders struggling with the track, i gave them the same advice about having to keep going and to work together to get each other to the top, then i got going again to see if anyone else was stuck.
I made it to the top then headed back down to help out the guys at the lowest point of the hill, i got down to them and helped them over a log then set off to sweep the track to make sure no one had been missed.
I got back to the group still on the corner told them about the adventures and then headed off back around to help get the last of the guys up the hill.
There were only 3 left on the hill, Greg,Russ and Clarky.
This is where Greg performed some ballet on his bike! he made it over the log and did really well not to lose controll of the bike and to keep it upright!! Checkout the footage Russ has put up of the manouver!
Finally the group was back together and we headed off for lunch an hour after we first attempted to go for lunch.
On the way to lunch there was a long rocky uphill to conquer which after the track some of the group had tackled was probably cruel taking them up it. Most of the group made it to the top, 2 Struggled with it because of bike problems and a stuffed rider so i asked Clarky to take the rest of the group to the end of the track and out to the SEC road, while i headed back down and took the others around the hill.
With some knackered riders and a bike that wouldn't idle and time getting on a bit, it was decided to take the SEC road all the way to the cars for lunch.
We got to the cars at about 1.45 for a well earned break and something to eat.
With the group fed and rested, 6 people decided to head home and then the 11 left headed out for the arvo loop.
The arvo loop was flowing along nicely along a mix of open and tight tracks when all of a sudden i had run out of cornermen.
I headed back to see what the problem was, along the way i picked up 9 corner men and then we worked out what had happened, someone had left a corner without the tail man releasing them, i left the group and backtracked to pick up the 2 lost riders, and thankfully they had returned to the spot where thay had last seen a corner man so finding them was easy.
We headed of to catch up with the others, the group was soon back together with no harm done, at least it was only a cornerman mix up and not a bike problem or accident.
After all this back tracking i was very low on fuel so it was back to the cars for us along some fun tracks and a tough rocky downhill, There was a little bit of carnage on the rocky downhill, but thankfull a broken front brake lever was the only injury.
We got back to the cars at 4.30, i had a 145k's on the odometer, and i think most of the group had around 100k's for the day.
Thanks to all the guys for a great day, i enjoyed the ride alot.

Thanks for a great day Nathan, and to Lefty for playing tailman all day.

That place is a real warren! There are tracks everywhere, and so much variation in the surface and the technicality - just need a couple of rivers and it would be ideal.

Not quite sure what happened when we first went to ride back to the cars for lunch - I was behind Nathan, but not in direct sight of him. I went down a track that I thought was a loop around a tree fall. It seemed to join up again with the main track, but then that track got thinner and more log-bound and much hillier...

After about 10 minutes riding with no sign of our ride leader, I figured it was best to stop and listen for other bikes. After a couple of minutes a few other guys turned up, and we decided to wait and see if Nathan would return. Shortly after we saw him heading up the hill on a different track about 400 mtrs across in the scrub. We headed over there and that's where Nathan managed to find us.

Clocked up 110kms on the YZ, and enjoyed every minute of it (even the wrong tracks)!

Yeah, great day Nath. All went smooth for a 1/2 ride. I think everybody had a challenge at some stage. Well done, I think you did very well on the day !!!

Thanks for putting your hand up Nathan, It's always good to get out.

Well I had what I'm calling a mechanical day out.

First Rob's YZ/WR creation decided to duff a plug. Being an older 2 stroke that was my first guess, so Lefty and I left Rob to it while we had a chat. After a while things wern't sounding so good with Rob. I went over to see his new plug socket with ratchet on top jammed under the frame with the plug still partly in the head. So what's the problem? Can't get to the ratchet dial to reverse it to screw back down and get the ratchet off. BUGGER!!

OK we'll just take 2 engine bolts out and swing the motor down around the swing arm to get some room. Shyte!! - even if we had sockets we have to take the exhaust off to get to the front engine bolt.

Plan 3 - I'm going to push down real hard on the end of the ratchet and if the plug breaks - we've got a spare. Well I'll be - socket swings over just enough to get a screwdriver in to reverse the ratchet - Phew!!.

New plug in and off we go.

Next little job was helping to change the front sprocket on Rob's Berg. I have to say riders who carry a spare sprocket are legends!!

We needed to remove the gear lever and then loosen the sprocket cover after hitting the spanner with a rock failed to loosen the sprocket bolt and we moved on to the spanner extended with a tyre lever for leverage.

Eventually all back together and the challenge hill riders were back and off we go.

During the morning my new S12 front felt a little vague so at a regroup I pumped it up quickly and then let it down with the gauge to 14psi after starting the day on 12. It felt better for a while and I decided I just had to get used to it. Spoke to Nathan at a regroup and with the same front tyre he always runs 10. Hmmm!

It was so dry I could have left the worn out Pirelli on.

Any way, just getting ready to go out again after lunch and went to let the tyre down to 10 to try. Bugger - it was flat, so that was it. I'm just amazed that it felt like it did being probably almost flat at times, side walls are getting stiffer and stiffer.

I decided to take that as a sign to go home early.
