On Sunday the 6th. The family headed to Woodruff, South Carolina for the LBJ Harescramble. The weather is getting cooler over here now. Yesterday we had snow flurries in Atlanta. We left the house at 5.20 a.m. The outside temp guage in the truck was reading 23 deg F. remember 32 F is freezing. We get to the race area at approx 8.30 and the temp is 29 deg still.
The Pee Wee race (50's) start at 9.00am . The white you see in this picture is ice on the grass, it was crunching when you walk on it.

Senna's race starts just after 10am when the PeeWee's are cleared from the course.

Senna leaving the scoring area, getting on the gas. Grass is now green and not white..

Senna finished in 1st place in Junior A. (9-11 y.o. on 85cc)
Their lap was 5 miles of slippery red clay, roots and off camber, two slick wooden bridges and one creek crossing about 18" deep. Senna said it was the best course he had ridden this year Shocked

All the class winners were interviewed and given a chance to thank their sponsors, (Mums and dads)

Then it was the BIG kids turn to race Grin

Here I am waiting for the start, I was wearing a wrist brace on my right hand. So couldn't get a normal glove on. I found I could get two Kevlar under gloves on my hand.

Lynn got a shot of me coming into the timing area after my first lap. I only did one lap. This was the plan from the start. I wasn't sure how my hand would hold up. I was loving the course, it was very slick. Lots of roots and ruts were developing fast. But by the end of the first lap my hand was begining to ache. I was in 3rd place when I pulled out...

Some other shots I took after I stopped.

In this last photo, there is something very different about the rider and bike. Who can spot it???

This was Senna's third attempt at the Little Brown Jug (LBJ). He had not finished the race previously. The first year he quit after one lap in the pouring rain. Then kicked himself for weeks after for stopping. Last year when he was racing his 65. He hit a tree and knocked off the carby. He didnt realise what had happened and couldnt get it started.. Then a course worker came along and put it back on for him and Senna rode back to the truck. What Senna didn't know was the intake was full of mud and water from the crash. Ruined the top end. Cry

The rider in the last photo looks like he's missing his right arm.

This person in the last Photo, only has a left arm.
I wonder if this person runs a Steering Damper.

That is correct. Riding with one arm, the throttle is on the left handle bar. Roll forward to accelerate. The front brake I think is on the left. Probably running an auto clutch. The right side handle bar is cut off short with a hand grip installed.
Next time you are having a bad day out riding thinking to yourself "man this is hard work" YOU have it easy.
This guy finished the race and it was getting very gnarly out there toward the end of the race.
My hat is tipped to this man!

Here are some more photo's. These are from Racedaypix, they travel to a lot of races in this area.. Photo's are of Senna. I only had one shot of me crossing the creek. not very exciting.
