Ride report from the GOR website. Ran into several other Aussies at the race. Shane Watts, Glen Kearney and Ben Kearney.
That was the most fun harescramble I have done yet. I lashed out and got new tires. I went with the Kenda, Southwick 2's front and rear. These tires transformed my bike. It was like it was on rails. I got to the first turn in 3rd, 2nd turn I moved into 2nd, 4th turn moved into 1st, then into the woods we went.. My confidence was up. I felt like I was invincible.. Then after about three miles or so, a fast straight full of whoops,(whatelse) with tree's close on both sides. I get unbalanced and catch the side of a whoop. This starts the left-right oh no, not the tree feeling in my head. I slam into a tree. Over the bars I go, land on my head in the trail. I do a tuck and roll. Run back to my bike, I'm back in reality now. The guys I fought so hard to stay in front of file by as I pick my bike up and get it untangled from the tree.. So I get back and chase them down, using a little caution this time. I catch back up with Greg Wallace and Mike Miller, manage to get past them again. The one muddy spot we had to go through was challenging. My Kenda tires were up for it though, I was able to loft the front onto the opposite bank and have enough momentum to get through.
i went through the scoring barrels in 1st. The second lap was the best. Mike Miller and I swapped back and forth many times. Mike got by me just before the end of the second lap. I was 22 seconds behind. I grabbed a splash of gas and headed off again. I did get stuck in a rut for a few seconds at the mud hole in the last lap. . I finished in 2nd place 1.28 minutes behind Mike. Greg was third.
Great course. Thanks to the SERMA club members great race... That mud hole is going to be a mess after 600+ riders go through it next week
Here is a video link as well. I rode through at the 4.18 mark.
