Title: Ride report Marysville 26/11/11
Post by: Brad on November 26, 2011, 09,11:57 AM
With rain the order of the day 22 brave souls turned up for the to ride with two more who were smart enough to go direct to the Marysville Bakery and then home.
The conditions were slippery, making the ride harder so we did a warm up lap to get to know what we were in for. Everyone rode very well with the emphasis in gentle throttle, momentum, gentle brakes and balance; in short good technical skills and riding.
As we all came to terms with the morning things progressed fine with a few spills here and there.
Lunch was early at 11.30 with a couple retiring due to prior commitments and recent injuries.  Most of the guys went into town for lunch, one being REC REG who saw Mr Plod and mutually agreed he exit town.
Shortly after lunch one of the Kato's was miss behaving and retired with Zeb's recovery assistance (thanks Zeb).
We headed back out and when it wasn't raining the tracks were somewhat grippy and fun which ended around 2pm when I broke my hand at the wrist.
We rode back to the cars and ended the ride early afternoon.
Thanks to everyone who attended and special thanks to Rossi, Adam and Darren for their leading and tail man duties respectively.

Shall post up the ride list sometime this week.

Your bloody joking the ride was moving so well in the morning, where did you fall going up or down or pot holeing.
Sorry to hear about your wrist, nasty.
Thanks for a great day, special thanks to darren & adam for stickng with me at the tail.
My local G.P says my left shoulder is arthritic due to many dislocations from the olden days,so i will just have to put up with it & take some prescribed medication. :)

Well that was f#@%ing good fun. I am sore and knackered this morning.
Good bunch of guys and no pressure. And plenty of help, Well organised thanks Brad and the other leaders and sweepers.
Hope the wrist goes ok. At least it's not the throttle hand!
What level on the AMTRA grading scale did the ride turn out to be?

What sort of en excuse is a busted hand for a short report BRAD? The ride list was handed to you before we left I think its in your jacket. But with so many hands all over you to undress you after the ride I cant say where it is! LOL

Glad to here you OK. Hope you heal up quick mate.

The ride was graded 1-2 but with the continual rain I recon it was 2 all the way at least. I know the last group I came back with did some lovely clubman down hills... sorry guys but a least we got back.

The tracks we very grippy in most places, but as usual you had to be aware of the sudden red ice. I know a few riders were chatting about 2 wheel slides  at low speed. plenty of laughs anyway.

The creek crossing at Marysville was rather larger than normal, so various ways across proved fun. One particular near mono across looked great, but the rider looked a lot wetter than the rest of us.

Credit where credit is due to the police who asked one rider in the wrong place to be gone when I get out of the cafe. I know I add heaps to stories of low police tolerance. But this cop was very fair.

Directly after lunch the sky cleared & it looked like a great ride was on. One loop up a little track & we were summons to the river again for a regroup. Then its started pissing rain which was steady for a long time.

The track were fast if you wanted them to be, but everyone hooked up a pace to suit themselves. The water bars were alway deep on the opposite side so it was only the brave who hit them up to miss the hole on the other side. I didnt see one at all in the rain & with fogged goggles. Haha the rear wheel nearly sent me into orbit as I rode up the hill on the front wheel hanging on for grim death. !   BUt it all ended ok & the rider behind me had a laugh at me when we stopped on the next corner.

Brads off was fairly spectacular I think the video was on, if so I will post it in the video. There was some heavy 4wd damage to the road on a blind corner & Brads bike straddled 2 very deep ruts spitting him off to the left, alas the only tree close to the track was in the way & thats was Brads landing spot. Cudos to Brad for riding one hand out of that track. Nice work tiger.

Great ride

Cheers Pete

Sorry to hear about your hand Brad - hope it heals quickly & well for you.

Thanks for organising the ride, and I'm sorry I had to pike it after that short loop following the lunch break - I was drenched through (jacket is definitely NOT waterproof), and I was starting to get chilled to the bone. I figured that it would be better to take off back to the cars with Zeb at that point rather than chancing injury due to not being able to concentrate on my riding properly.

We didn't get to see much of the bushfire regeneration due to the fog and rain, so hopefully you'll feel the need to run another one up that way when you're back on the bike - the tracks look like they would be awesome in the dry!

BTW, I managed to survive the ride unscathed, but the mud at home caught me out whilst I was pushing the trailer back into the shed - my feet slipped out from under me, backside hit the mud, and then the trailer drawbar slammed down onto my kneecap. I'll be hobbling around for a few days I think!

Oh Brad!!! It seems that you only ever sustain injuries on rides that I am not on. So maybe it is my fault for bailing out of this ride due to the weather. Sorry. Get better soon.

Dennis

All week I have been wishing I didnt go on that little ride last weekend to make sure the back was ok before going on your ride Brad.
Back was fine unfortunatley the slow off I had in the mud at wombat caused fractured ribs!

Maybe it would have been worse if I had made your ride by the sounds of it!

Hope the hand heals soon.

ps a combination of nurofen and panadeine forte seem to do the trick.

pps while the nurse was helping me get undressed she gave me a lecture about being too old to ride dirt bikes!!!

Hey Kurnol I hope u told her to go find a life, you r only as old as you feel and want 2 b, u didn't die, people die all the time from falling off horses or even just crossing the road, what about the injuries you can sustain from falling of a push bike on bitumen, I bet if u fell of a push bike shewould not have told u that u were to old 2 be riding a push bike but u probably would be in having skins graphs and a like done right now. Suck it up and get back on your bike as soon as u can mate. Will

I had a great time whilst the KTM was going!! I cleaned out the carby, fuel line and put different fuel in. it went alright on Sunday. It was nice and slippery on Sat, was good practice. A big thank you to the 2 tailmen and Zeb for taking me and my bike back to the cars! My front brake pads wore down to metal early on the ride and the back ones went on Sunday >.< so i have a few repairs to do before Daylesford next weekend

Brad, Brad, Brad, what can I say except "get well soon."

I was tempted to say "there goes half of your love life, but hang on there," but I won't.
