Title: Phil's Marysville ride Sunday 24th March
Post by: oobgolfer on March 25, 2013, 09,09:32 AM
First of all thanks again Phil for putting the ride on. Thanks also to Ted for tailman duties for the day.

Who would have thought we'd have the perfect weather for a ride. Fine and sunny with a little scattered cloud from time to time to keep the temp. down. The day started with a little bit of a wait for stragglers, but progressed through some warm ups on overgrown narrow trail and open tracks to get the feel of the bike under you. Yes, it had been a while since I'd thrown the leg over (no innuendo intended).

At some point shortly after the cornerman system broke down and we had to retrace our steps to find a small group of riders way off track (Dom Dom Saddle picnic area when we were all over the Narby side of the highway). After the regroup we again lost a couple of riders who took a right when the cornerman was pointing left. Phil took control and gave a quick re-stating of how the cornerman system works.

Back on track we ventured over to the Narby side of the highway again and picked up the pace. Phil capably mixed up the terrain (dry and grippy or glassy and slippery)and even found a hill or two that caught a couple of riders out (isn't that right Phil). We had to decide whether to go back down hill or continue onwards. Onwards it was.

We eventually emerged back at the highway and crossed back to the Marysville side where a couple of bog holes caused some to stop and think a little bit about line and pace. First and only bike casualty for the day happened here with Paul's big DR blowing out a fork seal.

With time getting on and everyone looking for food we headed into Marysville to the Bakery. Well fed and refreshed we got back on track and completed another hour or so of fine trails, arriving back at the cars around 3.00pm with close to 100k's on the clock. The terrain was varied and kept all riders entertained.

Great day with a great bunch of blokes. Happy days indeed.

Thanks Phil and Ted - despite the fork seal giving up on me this was a great day regardless - perfect weather and nice grippy tracks.
