Three bridges, Monty Style  12/5/12
By Al Mason
With the rider list falling from 21 to 14 riders for the day, 9 of us fronted up for the planned rain and hail soaked day. Only other two that never fronted up were the rain and the hail for the whole day. Peter Monty had put together a great loop with plenty of trails to suit everyone who came along. The conditions were perfect with very little dust, the odd bit of mud here and there with the rest of been pure heaven.
The group travelled real well with everyone have the section they loved, and hold ups were fairly minimal. With just a few of the punters learning what tyre pressures are best suited to these styles of tracks. As the day rolled on, and Pete’s humour and laughter got better and louder as the tracks did. With the hills getting snottier, rockier, tree rootier and steeper. With a few helping hands and a couple of back flips the group eat up the challenges.
Poor Clarkie was having a bit of an off day and was doing his best to wear himself out by picking up his bike. Unfortunately on one of the steep technical down hills there was quite a large bolder to drop from, that put the bike very close to vertical. A small grab of the front brake sent Clarkie to the ground, with his angry bike chasing him. He managed to get himself free, but corked his leg. The trooper he is he didn’t pull the pin, and struggled on. I dropped back to keep an eye on him and act as a second tail man to Trev if needed.
As we enter a cool little loop to run round for some fun before lunch and with Clarkie now unable to ride in a standing position or up change he called it a day. Big effort Clarkie and probly a blessing for what Pete had planned after lunch.
Shortly after lunch we went and played on a real hill, you know the type! Very steep, very tight, very rocky, very rutted, very slick and covered in small green branches! (Fun time!!) Once Nath and I made the top we walked down.                                                    Well slipped and slid down and helped out with a push, a lift or a ride to get the hill done. With our faithful leader and tail man doing their best to make thick steam clouds, with the fresh scent of coolant. Everyone up and some extra water added, Pete led us home via some more great tracks and a 3pm ish finish.
Thanks Pete for a great day, and Trev and Rob for tail man duties for the day. I know it wasn’t just me who had a great day, Al.

hey Al,
Thanks for the ride report. Glad everyone had a great day. I sent Clarky a mothers day message & he was fine.

This ride would have been a real mongral if the weather on sunday had been present on saturday! But it was a perfect day.

What can more could you ask for, everyone kept the ride flowing, no problems & the cornerman system work so well we didnt really have more than minimal breaks.

Phil did an great job hooking through a awsum bog hole, followed by brad who suffered a different fate! LOL Glad Al & the boys had a long tow rope! One super muddy KTM was the result!

Look forward to doing another one in the area soon as later in the day saw us pass some interesting tracks which I havent been on.

Cheers Pete

While discussing this ride. I would like to thank Trev & Rob for the tailman work.

I know this is sometimes a crappy job, I have done it before as well. But it does has its laughs as well!

Cheers guys

Thanks for a top ride Pete, and Al and Trev for tail man duties.
What a difference a week makes, there was a lot more grip than last weekend, but i reckon i rode better in the slicker conditions last weekend.
The dozer on Brittania Range Track has been busy during the week as well, it was like a nicely groomed motocross track in spots going back up it!

Thanks Pete for putting this on, a good mix of goat tracks and more open stuff. I saw a few other nice looking tracks here and there that we will have to check out another time, looks like there could be some more tight goaty stuff to find in the area Grin

Good group of guys which kept the ride flowing and were able to cover a good distance and still have a fairly early finish.

Enjoyed being the tail in the morning, Clarky provided plenty of entertainment with regular trips into the trackside vegetation and even a big loopout right in front of me, would have been good footage if I had a helmet cam. Good to hear you're ok Clarky, hope the leg isn't giving you too much grief.

If you put on another one out there count me in!

Thanks Pete for puting on the ride in a top area and the tailmen for their duties (although didn't hang around for Rob). Thanks Trevor - pleased I provided some entertainment. Some days it just not come together. Yes had a trip over the bars just like Al described. I tumbled and so did the bike. Result was me in the rut and the bike on top of me across the rut. Panicked at first as the rear wheel was in the air so the bike was still going with the rear wheel spinning just above my head. Quickly settled and realised I could crawl out from underneath. So I did. Turned off the fuel and as I could not reach the kill switch grabbed the back tyre to stall the bike. Then got out of the rode in the next bike joined me. He didn't and thanks for the help righting the bike. Yes tried to contnue for a while but pain got the better. Next day hurt like hell and as the day wore on didn't get better. With mothers day duties done I got my wife to drop me at Cabrini. It turns out I tore 2 of teh quadracep muscles off where they meet the knee plus the corked thigh (they called it a massive haematoma). Under the knife on wednesday morning to join her back up again. Wait a bit for that to fix and back out there for better days.

Sorry to hear the surgeon has to get involved Clarky! Guess that explains why changing up gears did work no more? Hope quick recovery for you. And will get you back out on the trails soon, incase you need a warranty claim from the surgeon when we test you again. Best of luck mate.

That sounds a bit nasty Clarky, hope all goes well with the op. You did well to keep riding for as long as you did.

Here's the only vid I took for the day, Rob having a bit of a lay down...

Thanks Pete for a great ride, excellent tracks and a couple of gnarly hillclimbs. Cant wait for the next one cause I know theres lots more slippery hillclimbs in the area,  but may need a thermo fan for the Berg. Clarky, hope you are on the mend and back on the bike soon.
