Fourteen riders turned up for the ride. We got going a little after 9:15 after getting the bike I had borrowed, thanks Steve F, going. Steve later told me the knack to starting it cold!
Mine shed a tooth off a gear in the box that I found as I was changing the oil at 4pm the day before
.
I haven't ridden in the area for a few years and things have changed a bit but we did about a 40km loop in the morning with the only real drama being a 2 stroke bike that ran out of fuel, thought he had enough for the 40km loop! The tracks as expected were a bit greasy but nothing we did stoped the pack. We were back well within time for the opening and found Phil R was there, later on Bill B and Pat R and Jackie R also arrived. The Limberlost Rd unloading area was opened on by the DSE, with a few of the people involved telling the gathered crowed some of the history of the area and the ideas to help with the trailbike/public problems and what is hoped to be achieved with the unloading areas.
After lunch that was paid for out of YOUR TAXES, 12 of us headed back out but didn't get far before we realised we were 3 short! There were a few photos taken of the group as we were about to leave, DSE publicity stuff, and I thought we were ready to go as a group. Off I rode and didn't leave a cornerman on the first corner, about 50m up the road from the unloading area. About 45 minutes later we were a group again but now only 10. The highlight of the afternoon was the hill that took bit to conquer, working together we got all riders up, I was glad of this because to go around means a fair bit of road. While we were on the hill Keith asked me "are you sure this is a level 2 ride?" I said this hasn't stoped the group has it! With everyone up the worst part of the hill we watched some 4X4's go down it, they had waited for us to clear the hill. This also gave Kelvin's clutch on his DRZ250 time to cool, it had overheated on the climb due to I believe it not being adjusted correctly. We'd used up a fair bit of the afternoon by now so from here on it was onto the more flowing stuff. On the south side of the hills it was the normal red grease you get up there, on one of these downhills two 4X4's were descending sideways as their road tyres didn't give them any chance of holding a line, one had the two front wheels in one rut and the rears in another with the fronts turned down the hill and a combination of power and skid getting moving forward down the hill. We got back to the unloading area a bit after 5pm. Thanks to the members who came out for the day and it was good to see a few new faces.
