Title: Neerim Sth Level 2, 28/3/10 morning pubman ride
Post by: Willbar on March 28, 2010, 08,21:44 AM
The fun started around 2 weeks ago with some of the committed pulling out of the ride due too injury's or family commitments so we found some replacements.
We were on the bikes by around 8am with myself and 12 other victims. I was hoping the over night rain we had at home in Pakenham had reached Neerim but no luck with it being very dry and lots of dust with no sign of rain there for a few days.
We headed out of the carpark down the bone shaker track to waken everyone up then to lizards and sawdust for the first regroup to find everyone was having fun.
I then led them up billstone and turned right memory lane to find some trails to add to next months all day ride. I led then across the plantation and then back and then back across the plantation again with some tracks in between.
Eventually we found our way to paris and then some of the tight disused 4wd tracks going under and up and down and in and out of ruts for most of the morning.
Eventually we made our way to everyones favorite area Young and hard up and stoll taking them up and down some of the areas most challenging spots. We had one early retirement  due to the dust but the remaining twelve of us stuck it out to the end returning to the carpark at around 11.50am with 76klms under our wheels.
All twelve of us then headed off to the Neerim South hotel for an afternoon of serious bench racing and some good tucker. Some had a couple of minor offs but no injury's worth reporting.

Hi Will,

Thanks for another great ride, even though my admin was up my arse I still enjoyed the day and left yet another piece of the 'Berg' in the forest somewhere (clutch lever this time  :-[ ) I think thin oil and to much clutch slipping was the rattle as it sounded fine once I got it home, time for some TLC this week I think  ;D

A big thanks to the tailman as well, who spent most of the day eating my dust (when the bike was running and I was still on it that is  ;D )
See you on the next one

Cheers

Peds

WHAT A DAY!!!!

To start with, a big thanks to Will for organising and leading a great ride.

Anticipation got the better of me and after laying in bed wide awake for 3 hours i got up, had a shower, loaded the car, hooked on the trailer and was on the road just prior to 3am.

I got to the car park at about 5 (its bloody dark in the middle of the bush at night!!) and finally managed to get some shut eye shortly there after.

with everyone turning up on time we were ready to go for the planned 8am start and off we went. this was my first ride back and my first ride on my new(er) bike and the first thing i noticed was how weird it was riding on pivotpegz - the pegs on the old bike were about half the width with blunt grip and they didnt move under your feet!!
Once i felt comfortable(ish) on the bike i had an absolute ball. Will took us on a great mix of tracks (sometimes more than once  ;)) with a couple of good hills (up and down) and some awesome "rarely used" 4wd tracks!!!

I had 2 little offs for the day which thankfully came pretty late and with no after effects!!

the feed afterwards was decent enough (has anyone seen where the fish is?!?!?!) and it was good to sit back and have a bit of a chat.

was also well planned Will getting the organisers to push back the start of the F1's to enable us time to get home and unload before the race started - nice work  ;D

Some had a couple of minor offs but no injury's worth reporting.
Apart from a broken bone in my thumb which an X-ray confirmed today.I have to wear a thumb splint for three weeks now.
Fortunately it was near the end of the ride and I didn't have to ride in pain for too long.
Thanks for a great ride Will, there was some quite challenging/technical trails in there and I'm sure the practice is helping improve my riding.
Now that the kind nurse at the hospital at given me a couple of days off,I might have a beer and put together some video..
Looking forward to the next one!

Great ride Will, all the lads had fun, I had a ball.
Good feed at the Pub except that bloody barramundi took a long time to defrost!! Might have to be a Parma next time, at least I didn't get my meal last, that honour went to Dr Brad. To his credit he didn't complain and got a "sorry it took so long" from the kitchen.
