Title: Re Woodside Level1.5 By Marls
Post by: Rudi on September 11, 2011, 04,53:12 AM
By co-incidence I bumped into Ted in Traralgon and after a coffee and a chat we were joined by Sandra and John who led the convoy out to Woodside. We passed Fred and Marls who were waiting for all the riders at the meeting point in Woodside.
Heaps of riders made the trip and the weather was magnificent.
We started the morning with a cruisy level 1.5 Ride Led by Fred and soon everyone was more familiar with riding in the sandy loamy grippy conditions.A really good experience and for those who couldnt make it they missed a great ride.

We were back at the unloading area for lunch and refuel.
After lunch we hit the trail again.
It started with a bit of a bang as Zeb hit an erosion mound at full speed and hit the ground real hard his Husky two smoker was lying on the ground and he was lying next to log 10 meters away from his bike.He was really lucky. He recovered fairly quickly after receiving treatment for a nasty cut under his chin.
However this marked the end of the ride for Zeb.

Hope you recover well mate.

After regrouping we spent the rest of the afternoon chasing around overgrown tracks with some sandy uphill rides and to end a great day Fred threw in a bit of a boghole and a short strech of muddy track.

Well done Marls (Fred)
You put on an awesome well organized ride great work i really enjoyed it.

Cheers

Rudi

"MARLS WOODSIDE RIDE"
SEPTEMBER 2011

G'day all,
Thanks to everyone that came along to My first AMTRA ride.
The God's were kind to us. Rain during the week, then sun shining on the day which made it perfect riding conditions.
This was a bit of a combined effort, to have a ride to entertain people of varying riding skills, without anything too hard. 24 Beginner through to Advanced riders came & though us girls were slightly out numbered 22 to 2, it was great to see more girls interested in coming along. For the one's that couldn't make it, hope to see you on the next one. Sandra, you rode so well & big congratulations for giving that sandy narrow track & go..top effort there  :D
Fred lead most of the ride, Gary Clarke lead the optional Special level 1.5 sections, Al Mason was morning tailman & Ted Henning afternoon tailman. Thankyou to all of you, for without your assistance, this ride could not have worked well.
My role was to stop Fred talking to keep the ride moving lol :P .  I also lead 2 easier ways around, while the boys did the special sections ;D ....(Rudi..did you explain to your wife what "Cut Cats" means  ???)  Zeb, hope that cut on your whiskers heals real soon  :'( & good to see you & your bike wasn't hurt  ;)..That particular track is so much fun & can very easily get the better of you when you get caught up in the euphoria of it all....
Sand, whoops, berms, bog holes, puddles, a few interesting dune hills, made for some flowing riding, along with some good arm pump for the day...."Mission Accomplished"
Here are some pics of the day...i'll pre-warn you there are heaps of them but we got so many goods ones' we just had to put them up here..
Until the next ride..
Cheers,
Marls  :)

I had fun as well until that little errosion mound decided to end my day , thanks to everyone for their concern after my little trip its not until something goes a little wrong yourealize just what a great organization AMTRA. Paul Bryce your a legend thanks for playing nurse maid on the long drive home.

Anyway for those that wanna know , 4 stiches in the chin and general soreness around the neck and shoulders , plus a ache on the top of my mellon where i must have collected some trail junk on the way through to my final resting place. Should be all AOK in a day or two, that styrefoam lineer in your hat is harder than you think ouch

Thnaks Marls and Fredo would love to go back and finish this ride from what i hear i missed the best part.

Thanks Marl's & Freddo for an excelent day. As for the help you got from myself, Gaz and Ted im sure we all would say the days riding out there, more than payed for it!! I had a great day after riding badly the prevous weekend in Holbrook. And still carring injuries from it. To start the day as tailman was good to be back on the bike for a cruzzy day. My mate Ted was feeling so good out there he wanted my tailman vest after lunch. Havnt seen Ted riding with roost and air for a while and he was on fire! But after handing over the vest after lunch and been able to blast along the style of tracks i love, was just the ticket to give my confidence and enjoyment back. Great buch of beginers through to new comers, with a splashing of experienced rides to help them along and pass on advice. Good pics from Marl's and Freddo, with hopefully some footage from Pat to come. Went home with a smile from helping out, having a blast been able to cut loose, passing on knowledge, watching Bill do his best to avoid the woops, riding motocross style woops properly, racin with Pat and most of all, riding with some old favourites and some new faces. BLOODY GOOD JOB Marl's and Freedo and put me down for the next one, Al

Well what can i say...that was a great first club ride experience for me.
For those of you who dont know, I have only been riding since Easter and last weekend was my third time on the Yamaha 230, so still very new. But I love it.
A huge thank you to Fred and Marls for organising the ride and a special thanks for encouraging and including me.

Marls...thanks so much for holding back here and there to wait for me and sticking with me, and for being my safety net.

Fred...thanks for all your advice and help especially when i fell off and felt a bit sooky for a moment. Your advise is fanatstic.

Al...thanks for being the morning tailman to help get me out of trouble...and yep, im working on keeping my feet up .

Ted..thank you for being the afternoon Tailman..your advice and help on my other fall i had was terrific...and thanks for helping me to not panic when i did fall.

Gary....Yes GARY...my first bump was another new thing for me to experience as i havent had that happen before..so thanks for being my first..and look out my friend..the elbow will come out next time

Zeb...i arrived just after your fall...i hope your ok..from what i have seen on your reports all is well..so im pleased.

Bob (1)..great to camp with you on Saturday night..thanks for the tut tut tut of the finger as i came down that hill..its all a learning curve for me..so appreciate your advice there.

Dan and Steve..nice to see you both again..and great video Dan.

Thanks  aswell to my fiance Johhny for his help, support and encouragement.

Cant wait to do this again and see you folks on the  next ride and meet more new people...My Yammy that had to be roll started by the end of the day is now in getting fixed..needs a new charging system put in it..apparently it wasnt picking up enough spark..but alas all is well and i will be back on the bike this weekend. Folks can anyone that was behind me let me know what if anything my bike hit , i noticed when i was allowed to stand up that their was a large tree with a big chunk of bark missing that was not to far away, dont know if the missing bark was due to my prang or another previouse incident . I am going over my bike at the moment and to make sure everything is AOK for safety reasons so if anyone saw which direction it went and what stopped it it would give me a clue were to have a second look and closer inspection >>>  Did it flop over on its side and grind to a halt or did it colide with something , maybe being pedantic but i dont want to discover something is not quite or broken half way through the next ride if ya know what i mean  ??? Thnaks in advance .

Hey Zeb.  I didn't see the incident but a few blokes were looking over your bike, and looked at the tree and the general consensus at the time was that it was your bike that caused the damage on the tree as it looked fresh.  However it had us baffled as to what part of your bike hit the tree as we could see no obvious damage.

Maybe it was the front wheel/tyre that scarred the tree?  I kissed a tree in Neerim the other week and was surprised at how a little tap with the knobbies could cause so much bark to come off.

Hope the chin is getting better mate, Dan

Hi Zeb I picked your bike up and straightened the bars etc, from what I was told and from what I could see your bike certainly hit the tree...what part I'm not sure....the main thing is you missed it ;) ;)

Thanks Gary for doing those sections, otherwise I would have never made it.

Rossi (Boots) best out of 3. Dirt Pilot said, I must have missed a gear  ;D  He'll be at the controls next time.

I enjoyed everyone's company on the day & it was a pleasure to have you all along. Sorry about making up some corners on the day; it was a bit of a hit & miss.

I hope all the injured recover soon...would have never thought of this on a Marls ride  ;)

Have a nice day...Fred

Thanks Marls and Fred for putting on a great ride, and thanks to all the tailmen.  It really is a great place to ride, it is not super hard but certainly super fun.  Next time we're there me and Zeb will make sure we complete the whole loop.  Look forward to the next one.  Annie was really sorry not to make it (she's aiming to get to Daylesford - thumb permitting!).
See you soon, Paul
