Title: Abbeyard 3.5 - Cup Weekend
Post by: Dirtpilot72 on November 03, 2010, 12,26:47 PM
Went to Abbeyard to attend the first Abbeyard 3.5 ride.

Saturday: Rode the RT100 from the top of the block to the shed, then along the bottom fence line. It was slippery in a lot of places, but good preparation helped. I had fitted a brand new IRC rear tyre and a front Chen Chin C755. Previous maintence included throwing the muffler in the fire to burn the gunk out of it. That helped on the return ride back up the steep hill back to camp. The bike had a bit more low end power. A good ride. Distance 500 meters.

Sunday: Today was a big day, i decieded to ride down to check out camp creek river crossing. I wore my new Alpinestarblunstone Tech 1 booots. They are 100% waterproof. The Rt 100 was on fire as i rode down the road to Camp Creek. The river was up a bit so i turned around and went back to camp. Great day out on the trails. Weather was better than yesterday. 3km total distance. next year i will get a T shirt and stubby holders made up.

See you all there next year.

The first river Xing at the start of Shultz Tk, this was Sunday afternoon when I went out to scout out the way in for the four day guys, not this way!
The normal river Xing is about 30 meters on and water not flowing down the track.
Told them to come down Walsh's Tk.
We'd had about 100mm to this time.

The ride report when there is no ride!
We got there Friday about 7, the weather was great and there were thoughts that maybe the weekend would be okay for the weekend, but then the BOM seam to get the weather right most of the time now!
It was suppose to start raining at lunchtime Saturday but it started just about 8ish Saturday morning and more or less rained until Monday with about 125mm for the three days. We had one of the heaviest periods on Monday afternoon; we got about 15mm in half an hour, just before the four day boys arrived :P
The rain over the weekend wasn't constant, there were times that the rain stopped but you knew there was more to come as it was always overcast. We prepared for the rain and had no issues at our camp from it.
Saturday night was the big night in the shed, most of the punters came in, some indulged in pizza, yum! The topic of the night was rain!
Sunday I took three of the kids out to look at the river crossings, we went to see what they were like for the four day boys. I told Shane that Walsh’s was the way in but they didn’t come that way in the end!
There is a fair bit of damage to the parts of the tracks up there from the rain in early September; it will take them a while to fix it all. There are also a lot of trees down across tracks so they need to be addressed too.
We were having a roast in the camp oven for dinner, getting the fire going for it turned out to be a task that was too hard in an eating timeframe so into the gas oven that Pat had given to the club, dinner went to plan from there.
Monday took three kids out on an explore down the river, we crossed the river at the washed away bridge just past McIvor’s picnic area, then we went and had a look at the mini bike track and the washed away part of it in the gully. The mini bike track will need some work :(
I probably did 1.5km on the postie on the block, going from the shed to the camp at the top of the block and back over the weekend, didn't ride off the property at all!
If you walked around the block you got wet feet from the grass unless you were smart and had gumboots so I used the Landcruiser to move people from the top down to the shed and back. The track up the side got a bit sloppy and I couldn't get to the top on two occasions. Ended up dropping the tyre pressure in the rear and then we got there.

Tuesday was good weather wise, blue sky good for drying tents before packing them away ::)

Left at about 2:30 and heard the Cup just as we started along the Rose River Rd.
