Title: Daylesford Family Day 20 July
Post by: Serge C on July 20, 2013, 08,34:26 AM

The weather girl had been saying all week, that it was gonna be a wet weekend, so it was no surprise that it rained most of the trip out to John's place.

What she neglected to tell me was, that there was a chance of snow!  So you can imagine my shock, as I turned onto the Ballan - Daylesford Road and the rain stopped, but stuff was still falling from the sky.....snow!  I was talking to Pete at the time, while watching the temp gauge go down to 0 deg!  Bizzar!

So after I got over the snow episode, I made my way to Valhalla to join the multitudes for the Family day.

There weren't many people riding, cos it was too bloody cold, but the kids (as usual) were cutting as many laps as they could.  The adults were a bit slower getting into it, but they got there.  I went out for a short lap with Ted, and then came back and did a few laps on the PE.

Lunch was soon happening (thanks guys), then John and I went out for a scout for a potential AMTRA Vinduro (stay tuned).  The property was wet, and we we took the little'uns out for a trail ride after lunch, some were daunted by the torrents flowing down the trails.  At one stage, Coop got bogged up to his knees (I know the feeling), but came out all smiles.  Kids, and adults alike, were struggling in the slippery conditions, but everyone made it back to the block safely.

With more bad weather closing in, folk started to pack up and ponder the exit out of the paddock.  I had two goes t the hill, before Dazz towed me out (thanks mate), then he headed back to help out the growing line of struggling 2WD's.  once on the rode, I bid my farewells and made my way home.

As usual, a great day out.  Thanks to Boofhead  for putting the day on, and to the cooks and every one else who makes these a fun event.

Oh,  and I also meant to say thanks to Al, for grovelling around in the mud under my car, looking for a suitable towing point.

And a note to Territory owners.  If your vehicle needs to be towed, don't bother searching for the towing eye that screws onto the front of your car. Unless you have purchased one from your Ford dealer, you won't have one!

Thanks for a great day in some trying conditions Mr T. Was very supprised by Coop wanting to get on the bike first thing and cutting so many laps before the other kids joined him. His off chamber riding late in the arvo on John's new track blew me away. I had a nice relaxed father and son day, Shaz was happy I brought him home with all the limbs he left with in the morning  8) All the kids did and awesome job getting through the gully for their ride, made even trickier due to the foot of water flowing through the bottom. And it was cold to, I should know I was stood in there for quite a while!!! Also Coops face when I rescued him and his bike from a puddle that was up to his knees and submersed the engine of crf was pricelessy, thought I ve been there mate  ;D So till the next one.
Al

Ps. The parents in-law said thanks for having them, to let them watch their grandson an meet more of our Amtra family.

Ps2. Serge, no problem at all.

Ps3. Sorry Father Ted for not catching you on your ill fated gully crossing.

Well this was the wettest ride day that we a have ran so far
as I was draining the access road on Friday and hoping their was no more rain on the way.
Well I was wrong.
It had shower for the rest of the night and heaver showers up until 4am I knew it was not going one of the best day we have had.
2 of our newest member turned up around 8ish which was a bit of a surprise as I was just getting the fire's lit and it had started to drizzle again as more people arrived we all crowed under the shed and had a chat.
Copper was the first out, putting the older punter to shame.
Cutting laps on his CRF 50, the rain stopped around 10ish and we had sun shine around 3pm.
The creek crossing which had been dry for the last 18 months was around 300 to 400 mm deep which is not to bad unless you are on a CRF 50 or a DR as Ted found out.
all went as per usual for the rest of the day until 2wd car started to leave slipping and sliding with trailed in tow was an interesting end to the day
All in all considering the weather all when quite well Seano's catering  came thru again, great job
Thanks to Rachael and Jackie for the BBQ
Hope all enjoyed the day
John T

Saturday was fantastic.  At one point I thought I wasn't going to make into John's after driving the bus past the gate, down the track some more and then coming up on the creek.  At that point I was thinking, I may have gone a little far!

Managed to turn the big girl around and get back up to the gate, greeted by John with quite a surprised look on his face - Yeah, I might have gone a little far, by the way, I'm Luke, a new member.....  :)

Everyone was very welcoming, the coffee and conversations were  flowing until the rain pulled up a bit. Then out we all went in various directions.

Seano, glad you got the JR going.

Thanks to Darren for towing us all up to the gate.  I very much appreciated your efforts.  John - for opening up your place for the day.  TED  :)- for taking me out to the short track first up.  The cooks - for giving your time to feed us. Everyone else - for welcoming me and making the day a hoot!

PS: John, I've been looking at a set of chains this morning.  Cheers.

Thank you very much to John and his family and all volunteers from Amtra that make the kids day so enjoyable for myself and especially my suburban kids that require some good old Aussie outdoors to remind them that there's more out there than a game console your neighbours fence and the end of the street. Thanks to the club and its members family time still exists in our fast moving world, something that is definitely lacking in society today. I've been a member for about three months now and enjoy the  monthly meetings and in particular the help and riding advice I received on the tullarook ride from  Mark Phil Dennis and Rob.
 :D :D :D
