BERGALICIOUS

« on: August 18, 2012, 10,26:44 PM »

what a big adventure we had ,seven of us turned up to endure what is know as Rawson and in the wet this place is a soul eater. Cry
20 meters into the very first track is the 1st river crossing , so your wet from the moment you start, all crossed no probs, so its straight into the decents, one of many for the day.
Two more tracks on and were into our 2nd R/C for the day and if this goes well we'll do the rest .baa da bing baa da bang no probs ,awsome lets roll, now were at the top of nth east trk, shall we do Dream, yeah why not we got good flow. When we got to the bottom so did the river crossing, with recent floods this mother had built its self a channel by pushin up rock dams either side and she was a flowin alright.
I decided to walk this one, to be sure,to be sure,to be sure .One more across, two more, uuh ow why is the berg 300 stopped ,water over the back mud gaurd stops these things dead in their tracks, look out here comes the ktm 300 ,uuh ow its under.
With 45 to an hour lost, its time to rethink the route ,even so this still means we got to cross back over again ,outa dream and back into phesant and we come across her again ,the abberfeldy that is,every one across safe, awsome lets get into it.End of pheasent ,left into wiliamson spur ,right down flats,left/right into white star and a right left into green hills link and then right into greenhills trk, gets us to the top of cobb ,all the while this ride has had rain, mist, drizzle, and sunshine, one minute your warm, next ya cold .Green hills link looks as though it dont get a lot of use so it was over grown and the bushes hold a lot of water, so the gloves were wet through and fingers were frozen.
Ok were all here good, lets roll I,m starvin. Into cobb spur were nearly there lads ,on one of the down hills I came into a corner to hot and pushed the rear brake on to find the arse end of the bike level with the front ,ok I better let it off now ,oh bugger it dug in and high sided me over the top of the bars ,all good back on and only got seen by one.
Half way along cobb we come to anothe R/C three of us here I suggest we cross there ,so the ktm 200 goes for it uuh ow its very deep there, water over the rear gaurd see,s this come to a sceamin holt (sorry simon),in that case we will cross down here a litte ,another dewater see's the time gettin on now so with that fixed lets move lads .Were off again I,m in the zone and were flowin ,but whats that knockin on me leg ,uuh ow bark buster lost a screw ,hey presto AJ just happens to have a spare (thank you kind sir)in the mean time our trusty tailman had thrown a spring from the side stand. With these little things fixed were off again .
As I aproach this snotty greazy clay hill I think I may need some momentom here, the hammers on and I'm at the top ,Man I gotta stop and watch this,ok 4 outta 7 at the top and 3 at varios stages of the hill huffin ,puffin and yellin abuse at me ,with a bit of pushin and shoven were off again and trouble free, now were cold and wet and just wanna get a warm lunch in our bellys.
Now at Licola bikes full ,bellys full ,whats the time mister wolf,oh sh1T ITS 3:30 ,ok map out whats the quickest way home SEANO Huh .Righto fellas warm up yer engines and jump on the SEANO express were headin home,on the black stuff to cheynes bridge ,warp speed down cheynes to a right into black range trk ,now left into glennmaggie creek trk, straight now into williamson spur ,very cold at this speed fingers numb, left at one speck, right into nth east around to beardmoores and were back safe and sound gettin in to some warm clothes and a bundy at 5:15 pm.
Hope you all had as much fun as I did, even with weather like this I still enjoy a hard day on the bike and I love the challenges this area has to offer. Now be,in the ride leader you tend to miss out on some funny sight so please do a litte write, my attendee,s , and fill me in with funny things you saw.
To my faultless tailman Jeff, A HUGE THANKYOU FOR A BIG EFFORT ,MUCH APPRECIATED and till the next one see ya,s
SEANO Grin
ps. even with a few hicups the parts inbetween flowed like a well oiled machine and we did manage to clock up 150 k,s for the the day Wink

Well done Seano. As Tim says those are the days you remember on the bike, and when you beat every challenge.

Thanks again Seano - what a great day! Glad the ride was on a Saturday, more time for aching bones to recover before work on Monday... Even with a few holdups the ride still flowed really well, great tracks, the ridge track above Licola and the drop down were awesome... Learned a lot about de-watering bikes and about checking for simple issues like kill-buttons being depressed by rotating throttle bodies...(you forgot to mention that...!!) Will bring 2 pairs of dry socks next time... Thanks for the good planning, a well-run ride, and for getting us back to the cars before dark. Cheers, Simon J.

Thanks Seano for putting on this ride. Despite the weather being wet & cold I enjoyed the day's ride and I think we all learned a bit about de-watering bikes by the end of the day. Just like last time, a BIG THANKS to Jeff for his tailman duties.

Top job Seano & crew another great ride.
Rawson has a knack for memerable moments, at least this time it wasn't a brocken bone and a chopper rescue.
This time it was a Berg that refused to go after dewatering, we checked every thing two or three times even pushed it up the hill twice for a roll start still no sign of life.
It seemed low on compression so we removed the reed valve for a clean up,put her back together and she fired up straight away.
The rest of the day went fairly smooth except for a little greasy hill climb that Lynton would sooner forget.
Oh yeah coming home on Williamson trk which was one of our time saver trks so it's a fast open logging road, there was a sharp left hander that come up quick on you.
Simon was just in front of me and he points to big skid mark on the right hand side in the leave litter clearly someone had come in too hot and had to do a bit of rear wheel steering kind of had Seano's name all over it Grin
Thanks guys for a great day.

it was a bloody good honest days ride.
massive thanks to Seano and Jeff for thier duties and to everyone for dragging my sorry ar$e along.
its the first ride ive done in months and i sure am feeling the pain today. i dont think there is a muscle in my body that isnt screaming for mercy today Grin
having a good swim in the aberfeldy river 20 minutes into the ride didnt help either Roll Eyes
my bike and gear is still in the van today as i just dont have the energy to go and wash it.... tommorrow sounds good Wink
had a few minor stacks, one that knocked the wind out of my sails. at least it has made me wanna give up the ciggys more Cry
the hot pie and coffee at licola picked me up. as did the mad dash home to the cars. i reckon i finally found the zone 20 minutes from the end Grin Grin
i reckon that slide into the leaf litter was me... i did a few of those as my concentration failed me in the cold.

cold... did i mention how cold i was?
i could have cut glass with my nipples when we got back Grin

thanks again dudes, it was a ride i wont ever forget.

cheers
