BERGALICIOUS

« on: May 22, 2011, 01,45:23 AM »

The day started with Matt and James picking me up 630 we headed off to Rawson. With James in the drivers seat (which was scary in it's self)Quick fuel stop, then arrived at Rawson around 815 with blue skys and fairly dry tracks shapeing up to be a great day. We all headed off 910. Down the first track to the Thompsons River bridge. Where Wiggy had an off on the slippery clay and hurt his shoulder. Then went across the Bridge and took Mormon town track to Walhalla Rd where we had a re-group and so far so good. I then decided to take everyone down Deep Creek 1. With a wounded shoulder, Wiggy decided to meet us at the end of Deep Creek 1.

We then went down through the Creek to the bottom of our first steep hill. I started my ascent up the hill as I rounded the corner I lofted the front wheel and ended up in scrub with the bike on top of me, someone came and lifted bike off me (can't remember who but thanks 4 that) back in the saddle and up deep creek 1. It was good to get to the top! Grin Wiggy called it a day due to injury. With 12 left I decided to take Deep Creek 4 to Binns Rd, midway along is a massive hill. Dave had 2 attempts, Matt 3 and myself 1 couldn't get up so we decided to go around the hill then along Binns rd and into Army track which gave us fast paced awesome riding with heaps of erosion mounds, for some very good air time!!At the end of Army track decided to stop at Bobs Hut 4 lunch around 1145.

After lunch with good time,I decided to extend ride along Morning Star and around to White Star. Once again fast flowing track's where I had a big OFF. Don't know what happened!! found myself skidding along rocks with James in the background laughing!!!a bit winded, bruised and battered but ok. With broken plastics and a few more scratches on the bike. we continued down and across the creek into Flats track and Spur Rd. Which surprised us with some very steep rocky uphills. On the top of the  hill we noticed Craigs YZ had a hole in the radiator hose which was quickly fixed by Matt and James (thanks lads). We then headed down to One Speck and Dry Gully, back to Binns rd. With some time to spare we did Deep Creek 1 backwards. From there we went to Cricket Ground track and into Brittannia on the way back. From there down Mormon town track and back up Browns to the carprak finished up around 4pm with 110 klms on the speedo. After pack up most of us headed to the pub for a beer and a great meal. Then home thanks to my taxi driver ,Home, James!! Wink

A very big thankyou to my two tailmen for the day Matt in the morning and Rossi in the arvo and my camera man Dave Smith and to the rest of the crew. The support for the day was outstanding and much appreciated for my first lead ride. I hope you all had a great day and I'm looking forward to leading another ride again soon.            Cheers Seano (tickets)

The day didn't go so well for me....... Cry
Came off on Depot Rd 5 minutes into the ride on a patch of slippery clay. Used my right shoulder as a "pile driver" which I wouldn't recommend trying. Decided to meet the group at the top of Deep Creek 1 and straighten a wayward barkbuster while I was waiting for the group to come out of the valley. I took my bumbag off to get some tools out and it was at this point I decided I was a DNF. The group took off down Deep Creek 4 after assuring Sean I would be right to find my own way back. After we parted company I found I couldn't get my bumbag back on with a crook shoulder. I was in luck when another group of riders appeared and helped me put my bumbag on. It was a nice day for a ride, so I took the scenic route back to the cars on the main rd.
When I arrived back at the Stockyard I was in luck again with another group of riders on hand to put my bike on the trailer for me. At home one of our neighbours who's a nurse had a look at my shoulder and suggested I get it checked at casualty to make sure nothing was broken. Fortunately nothing broken  Grin

Got up at a bit after 5am, & waited for Mark to swing bye to pick me up, it was great to be shover driven for a change thank mate.
We were the first ones there, it wasn't long before the rest rolled in one after the other, I asked Seano if he was a bit nervous, with a smile he said yeah a little, I think he would have bean a lot more nervous if he had of driven himself there, traveling there with the Greasy brothers would have kept his mind of the ride a bit, those two blokes are funny buggers Grin
Sorry to hear at the first regroup that Wiggy had come down & hurt his shoulder, hope it's not to bad mate, the trails were perfect, some were a bit slippery but for the most they were spot on, when we came to the first bloody big hill, I thought there's no way I'm going to get up there, Seano had the first go & failed, then Row & Dave had a go with no success, not to be branded as a wimp pommy mat had 3 goes getting to the same spot each time, great effort mate, I was happy that there was a way around Grin
The ride moved along very well, there was only a few times that Seano had to get the map out, giving us/me time to catch our breath Grin  this was the first ride with the new bars, I put pro taper bars on, they feel so much more comfortable then the standard ones, I also packed the Steg Pegs out 10mm so I can hook onto them easier, I like them now, I didn't at first.
I swapped rides with Mat, riding a 4 banger again brought back to me why I used to bad arm pump, they have arm pulling power, before we took off, Mat was quick to point out to me the condition of his rear tyre yeah it was well worn down with a few knobs missing Grin I told him not to worry, I'll be right,he must have been a bit worried about it so the swap didn't last long Roll Eyes
When Seano had a close look at the ground, we all pulled up & waited for him to come too ( joking) to catch his breath, Dave p was calling out to me, I think he must have called to me 3 or 4 times, he was only 2 bikes behind me Grin so after he got my attention he ashed if I wanted to swap, ok it's always good to have a ride on something else, I was very surprised in the power deliver of the 570 berg, very rider friendly, I did manage to drop the berg up one tricky hill, sorry for that Dave, I know that you told me that ya got to use the clutch other wise it will stall & it did, I ended up doing a backward somersault down the hill Grin
At the next couple of regroups Dave asked if I was happy to keep going, I said yep, that gave me enough time to get the feel for the berg, yeah it's a very nice bike to ride, it's easy to loft the front wheel, with the smooth power deliver & plenty of it, it's easy to learn to do monos on I reckon, when Dave was marking a corner, I saw 3 puddles in a row just past where was standing, I couldn't help myself I lofted the front over the 3 of em Grin Thanks mate I really enjoyed the ride, getting back on my 2 smoker was fun, gee I love the smoker.

Thanks Seano for the ride you did a great job, & thanks for the sweeps Pommy Mat & Rossi, & all you other fellas that was on the ride, I had a ball.

Top job Seano, managing to cater for all our abilities with a good selection of terrain. Had some unusual stiffness in the old legs, couldn't even do the vacuum cleaning yesterday!

Looking forward to the next one...
