A  Abbeyard Easter
By Al Mason

What a great Easter break at Abbeyard! Weather was great, tracks were in top condition, block is in great shape, dust was plentiful and the Easter bunny still managed to find all the kids that were unsure if leaving the house on such a chocolate rich weekend was a good idea?
A bit of a rush getting two bikes ready (sorry Shaz), get the roof top tent loaded and gear ready after riding the last three weekends in a row. A 4:45am start for me and the family to make Abbeyard in time for Friday’s first pre ride for the weekend.
There were several groups of members already at the block and more due to arrive as we set up home for the next few days. People were tinkering  bikes or the block and Damo and Sky were at work as they were for the entire weekend. (Bloody big effort guys!)
Around 11am I think it was we Dave lead the five of us out for the pre ride to Harriet Ville in cased the weather is poo for the HCR. The ride flowed nicely with no bike issues or major offs were chewed through the kilometres are Al pace until fuel and a Parma arrived at Harriet Ville. We talked some poo and then headed for home as the arvo was with us.
Friday night was great in the shed with most people having dinner, drinks and a good time as the kids still run around armed with torches till late. Some kicked on till the very late night, but bed for me with an early start soon arrived. (Soft)
Saturday morning was bike maintenance and gear up for the pre ride of the Saturday course. Seven of us once again trusted Dave and headed out on the course we ran a few weeks earlier. After crossing Camp creek and starting into the hills Darren was not feeling as one with his new steed and was finding the going frustrating. However he was keen to push on and get use to the green machine. The day flowed fairly well other than a small miss understanding whilst taking Darren around a short cut, but radios had the problem quickly fixed and we were all back together for the run to Porepunkah. As Dave took notes and checked details for fuel and lunch. It then was a run up this year’s challenge hill to see what the group thought? We all loved it apart from the green machine, which got angry with Darren and turned itself over and pointing back down the hill it didn’t like. When the group got back down Darren was on the tools and armed with the metal putty rebuilding the throttle housing. We were soon back under way and checking the easier (not easy) route for the punters. At Pourpunker it was fuel, feed and head for home as it was getting on. A small round about mix up saw me waiting for DK to return and re join the group and hit the pines in search of Abbeyard. A few track adjustments and some weary riders rolled through the gate on dark, with around 180 kilometres on the clocks. A great days riding and some awesome tracks was finished of with a great bon fire after dinner that had all the kids, big, small and 40 with smiles on their faces. A few hearty souls kicked on till the early hours to help Seano celebrate as I played soft again and hit the hay.
Sunday morning saw my family wake to Jeff with a video camera awaiting Coop’s surprise, with the Easter Bunny leaving his food prints and bounty of chocolate eggs around our camp site. After a few more egg hunts around the bloke and breakfast it was then off to pre ride Sundays loop.
Four of us headed out once again under Dave’s guidance and made very good time without a hiccup to be found. And with some trails you just whished would never end and some rear tyres that had ended, we flew through the 120 kilometre course in record time. Rob and Doug ran the course and Dave, DK and myself run through the extension loop like a couple of lunatic’s and were back on the block by mid afternoon.
Shaz had packed up camp, so shower, talk poo, cook some dinner, head out the gate and 12:05am and we were home. (Traffic was great, saw 15 cars in 4.s hours) Row had take the Doctor out of moth balls and ridden up for the night and chat up.
Would really like to thank Rach (Mrs Lynch)and Tammy (Mrs Seano) for adopting Coop’s for the weekend. It was great to watch all the kids being kids and to see most of the people on the block socializing around the shed and pitching in get thing finished off whilst we were out working (riding) Shaz, Coop and myself had a great weekend and Coop’s wants to know when the time we can go to Abbeyard? Also thanks to everyone who had a go at tail man duties and riding duties. Also to Dave for organization. Bring on the HCR.
