Title: Marysville 15/11/09 Post by: Milktoast on November 16, 2009, 10,52:19 AM I've been waiting for a Marysville ride since I joined, but they were always on weekends I was working. So I couldn't pass this one up.
I think there was about 24 riders at the start and all ready to go we headed out from Dom Dom Saddle. What started out as riding through overgrown tracks with hanging branches soon turned into singletrack. Then it was dodging burnt stumps, logs and trees which nearly saw me come undone a couple of times. After a bit of singletrack things opened up into some firetrails and some really good hillclimbs and decents. At this point I was asking if this was really level 1/2? While I'm only a novice rider I found this was pushing my limits a tad. But I was loving it! A perfect ride for gaining some good experience.I even got in my first creek/river crossing!(sort of) So..after some mud holes, some hillclimbs (some of which we had to turn around half way up)some descents that had me nearly pakin' myself, lots of dust and some spectacular scenery we made it into Buxton for fuel. It was at this point that the cornerman system kinda went pear shaped. The pointman (sorry,I didn't get any names)took off and we all followed a minute later. Unfortunately no-one seemed to know which way he went so we ended up riding to Marysville by the main road. Seeing we took the main road we had extra time to lounge around in the shade and eat bakery food. By the time we rode back we were a few riders short.I know the sweep was having front suspension problems, and Phill wasn't getting along with his WR 250R,(He stuck it out though)but other than that I'm not sure where everyone else went. On the way back I kicked up a small log that I didn't see in the dust.It hit me just above my boot and if it wasn't for the knee/shin guards I swear I'd have a broken leg now. Anyway..to sum things up,I had a great ride and appreciate the good company and advice that came with it.. Looking forward to the next one.. The pointman (sorry,I didn't get any names)took off and we all followed a minute later. Unfortunately no-one seemed to know which way he went so we ended up riding to Marysville by the main road. That should read...some bright spark decided to circumvent the cornerman system and just turn left off the road instead of going straight ahead as per the cornerman system. And most of the rest followed. Phil, Luke and Kelvyn - being a bit smarter than this and found an annoyed Shane and I waiting on a the next corner.... some time later for the trip through the triangle into Marysville. After lunch we found a nice route back to Dom Dom via the Granton car park which is looking like it will get a guernsey ......soon. There was a lot of challenging stuff for the L1/L2 guys but grip was good and as a result nobody had any major drama's. Thanks to Paul and Phil once again. Cheers, Freddy. Title: Dom Dom / Marysville 15/11/09 Post by: KelvynB on November 17, 2009, 10,53:58 PM Well what a perfect day for riding.
My first time starting out of Dom Dom and it appears to be a perfect little spot. A good mix of bikes as always, everybody was up for having a go and the video posted else where demonstrates that. Phil was busy christaning his new steed and is sure to be back at the front of the pack by the next ride. Myself and a few other softies pulled out short of the lunch break but still clocked up 105kms. Good on the enthusiasts who stuck it out for more k's after the bakery. Thanks to Paul for leading and for our tailman who ventured out knowing he was going to be in for a rough one with his KTM suspension. LOL A big shout out to the substitute ride (or is that ROAD) leader from Buxton to Marysville. Alls well that ends well.
