Title: Marysville 10 August 2008 Post by: Matthew L on August 11, 2008, 04,25:00 AM YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=si-3Mg-aJZo
Another month, and another famous Marysville ride. The weather reports for Sunday were not looking good. Slippery as usual in Winter and I had just got a new set of tyres, so I went for a ride on Saturday to check 'em out. Fantastic. I left the bike on the trailer overnight and bit the bullet in the morning. Snow in the spur on the way there..... Phil was leading this ride for the first time in a while and 19 mental cases turned up. A slow start and spent most of the time in the triangle riding the tracks around there, having a go at a couple of nasty slippery rutted hills. After a couple hours and only about 40kms we crossed over to project road and Phil led us to a Track with 2 very slippery clay hills, we all climbed the first one, but the second defeated us all, and defeated one bike, and was snowing up it. We gathered at the bottom of the track and got very cold waiting for the broken bike to get down. Back to the highway and as a group we had had enough and rode back to the cars. About 60kms total for the day, back at the cars by about 1.30pm I had a great day, wet through by the end of it. And amazed at the confidence some decent rubber can give you. The slippery hills were very entertaining, even defeated Phil's specially imported rear tyre "Michelin Gold". I think the total was about 50km's for the day not counting the distance we travelled with either one or both wheels in full lockup. Thanks Phil for another well lead ride, hope the shoulder wasn't too sore afterwards.

That last greasy patch near the top did most of us in. Kept Wayne and the broken Berg company while waiting for our transport home. Used the WR as a heater. Good ride, and great driving back over the spur through the snow. And thanks for putting up with my slower than usual pace, wasn't sure how my shoulder was going to stand up. As for the "Michelin Gold" !!, I got further up the hill than most of you.
Thankls again and see you next month. Phil R. |
