Title: Harescramble. Perry, Georgia. Post by: OZinUS on October 21, 2009, 02,37:56 AM I copied my ride report from the local discussion board here in Georgia, so excuse the American lingo.
My first SETRA harescramble for almost 2 years. Got there Saturday afternoon. Camped with Johnny. Johnny cooked some great grub for dinner. I woke up about 4.00am with a bad migraine. Couldn't sleep, tossed and turned until I saw some daylight. Got up and went outside to the truck, grabbed a bottle of water and drank some. Just sat in the drivers seat and closed my eyes for about an hour. Then Lynn came out with some migraine pills. I took a couple of those with water. My head is still killing me. About fifteen minutes later I"m running to a tree and trying to throw up my three mouthful's of water.. Oh woh is me. I take Senna over to the sign up and get him signed up in Junior A, his first race on his 85. I do have some oatmeal and coffee next and it stays down. I get Senna's bike ready and we head to the start line. Senna gets the holeshot in his class and goes into the woods first. He leads all four of his laps and wins his class I had serious doubts about racing ealier in the morning. But after some more drugs and food I decide to give it a go. I get signed up and get my bike off the trailer. Johnny is headed to the start line as I drag my gear bag out of the truck.. I got changed, topped up the gas and made the start in time.. 45+C and 50+C are lined up together. There was a good number of riders in these classes. I thought I would take it easy and just see how I feel banging around a race course. My bike doesn't start first kick, so I kick it again and it fires, pull it into second and I look across the start line there is only myself and one other still there... So off into the woods we go I get past one or two in the first woods section. then off into some open area's for some fourth, fifth and sixth fun. good mix of woods and open trail. Was pretty slick in spots. Then I came across the first major drama. In fairly tight woods the main trail turned to a quagmire. There were bikes everywhere in the woods, left of the trail. right side of the trail. Most were stuck in muck to their frames. I picked a line just to the left of the main trail. It took me over two 18" tree's about 8 feet apart. I lost momentum over the first and got stuck on the second log. I took a drink from my camelbak and surveyed the chaos around me and just shook my head. In and enduro you only face obsticles one time, but a harescramble I have to come back by here again I pushed on over the second log and continued on without a lot of enthusiasm. A couple of creek crossings were tough as well. I had made up my mind to quit after the first lap I stumble my way back to the scoring tent and you wouldn't beleive it, I'm in 1st place in 45+C I can't quit while leading So I head out for another lap. Thanks very much to the race organisers because they were rerouting some of the worst area's. So each lap after that was slightly less difficult. Still had some nasty creek crossing that were line critical. Never crashed all day and only the small pause during the first lap wondering why I was there.. So I ended up leading each lap and finished with four laps total. My first Harescramble win. Johnny finished first in 50+B. So the day that started so painful turned out ok It was 11.5 miles per lap. It was a mudfest, although it wasnt raining on race day.
