This was my first ride in over 4 months. So there I was Thursday night in the dark and drizzling rain puting my bike back together, wondering if it would run.Put some fuel in it and it started 2nd kick. That's right, I still have a kick starter.
Up early Saturday morning and off to Peters house, just 15 minutes down the road.A quick "hello" and off we went to Strath creek. On the way up the hume I overtook the drive leader and took the lead. Some may call it karma, but 5 km's out from Strath Creek I hit a roo.
I was not going to let this ruin my day.On arival at Strath creek with about 30 minutes until start time, I was surprized to find about 6 people already waiting to go.We ended up starting just after 9.00 am with 10 riders. It was a short road transport up to the trails, around 8 or 9 km I think. When we hit the trails it was great to see there was minimal dust. With even the odd spot of mud, particularly on the high ridges. In the morning we did about 70km of mostly smooth open tracks. It was great to be back on a bike after an extended break. No real dramas in the morning run.Just perfect level 2 type riding with a little exploration, as Peter had not been in the area for a few years.Back down to the Strath creek general store for lunch.I had some great fresh salad roles AND sandwidges.Oh, and a drink and choclate bar.Everone else seemed to be eating the lamingtons.
Back on the trails for another 70 odd km's after lunch.Peter picked up the tempo a bit and we struck our first problem for the day.On a short steep climb, 1 rider(sorry I don't know your name) on Yamaha came to greif and was collected by his bike on the way down.We was struck in the back of the knee and was in a fair amount of pain.I was surpised to see he was wearing no knee gaurds, although in this case it may not have helped, as he was hit in the back of the knee. After a regroup a short distance away, the injured rider decided to ride back to the cars and call it a day. 2 others volenteered to go with him.
Back on the trails and more fast flowing trails with a wicked rocky hill climb thrown in.This caused a bit of carnage, some of it possibly caused by me stalling half way up.Sorry guys. All up, I think we did a bit over 140 clicks for the day.I think most had a great day.I know I did, despite the local fauna smashing up my car. Thanks Peter, hope to see you on the next 1.
Long live the 2 stroke.
