26 riders rocked up at Taggerty for Pat’s ride. Most got there for a 9:00am start. Some got there late and we kicked off at 9:45. Not a good start!
I put my hand up for tail man duties, so I expected a cruisy ride. Less than 1k in, we encountered chaos! A large tree was down over the first bridge, and there were people going everywhere trying to get around it. We got them sorted, and we were off again. 4.2 k into it, my wingman and I came to a corner and waved the corner-men on. They just sat there and waved back! Seemed that they had bike hassles, so we checked it out. Phil’s Gas Gas had a knackered throttle cable and fortunately, Darren (who rode an 80’s XR 350 with cable breaks), had a cable repair kit. So we set about replacing it. The cable nipple that sat in the throttle housing was about 1mm too wide, so we filed it down to fit, and lo and behold, it worked, although it was a little stiff. Phil was happy that his bike was going, so he just put up with it. The whole process took about an hour to complete, by which time Pat had looped back to see what had happened. He advised the 4 of us to take a short cut up an alternate track, and wait there while he rounded up the rest of the group. We did this and when Pat arrived, he had another rider on the back of his bike. Another breakdown, so Pat asked me to go and collect the corner men from the next corner, and bring them back for a regroup. I got to the next corner to find that a rider had over shot that corner, and that Dan had gone off in hot pursuit. I waited with the corner men and soon after, Dan re-appeared with the wayward rider. We all went back, re-grouped with Pat and the rest of the crew, took a breath and finally set off as one!
The rest of the ride went off without too much hassle. We stopped for a lunch break, then continued on through a collection of wide, fire trails and tighter tracks. For a 1.5 (?) standard ride, the group was flowing well.
Later in the afternoon, Pat took us along some treacherously slippery tracks, and both Marls and Tammi were having a little trouble negotiating them. We spent some time with them, giving them whatever assistance and advice we could, and they soldiered on bravely. I had a little slip over at one stage, but the good thing about being tail-man is that no-one saw it, so no-one will ever know that it happened! At one point, we came to an intimidating hill that several riders were not prepared to tackle. Alex had had 2 cracks at it with no success, and the girls were looking for an alternate route. I checked Alex’s tyre pressure, and with 20 (+) psi we soon realised what his problem was. I let some air out, and he rocketed up like a pro. We convinced the girls to have a go, and although both stopped once half way up, they cleared it with minimal assistance.
We continued on, but had to dodge a lot of trees that were down over the tracks. This made for some tiring riding, but we all got back to the cars, safe and sound by 4:30, with around 80 ks under our wheels.
Pat had advertised this ride on both the AMTRA and DBW web-sites, and got a mix of riders from both clubs. He is on a one man recruiting mission! Thanks to Pat for a great day, and to all the others who came along. I don’t have the ride list, but I’m sure it will be posted soon, along with the inevitable report and photos from Marls.

Top report Serge and great work as tailman with Fred.
Wasn't as easy a ride as I was expecting with some nice challenges along the way to keep it very interesting, top marks to Pat for leading this often tricky ride and for taking us to such a great place. I'll be back in the dryer months for sure.
I've never had to navigate so many fallen trees in 1 day, it really takes it out of you but great experience...
I didn't manage to get a heap of photos but will post those which I took tonight. Thanks again, DanJ

Gidday All, Firstly, BIG Thankyou to Pat for putting on 'One Hellofaride' ...Level 1.5?... I think i'm a 'Club Woman' Rider now...reckon I could even pass Pete R on those slippery hills now! What can I say, that hasn't already been said... A ride with all sorts of slippery terrain & challenges thrown in..reckon we went over, around, under, up & down over 2000 trees; that's what it seemed like anyway My girl partner in crime Tammy rode fantastic & we had a few 'High Five' moments, expecially once we plucked up enough courage to go up 'THAT HILL'...OMFG...every other up & down hill seemed easy after that one...Well done to us Thank you also to those that helped me throughout the day, which was just about everyone & I even think a local farmer came & helped me too.. LOL...Serge & Wingman, your advice & assistance was priceless...& priceless too SergyBoy, when you fell at my feet & you know when, along with everyone else watching Pat, once again awesome ride & please put me down for the next one...I wouldn't miss it for the world.. Here are the pics from the day. Cheers....Marls PS The new Sherco 300 rode beautifully.. Hi Peter Your aggresion and lack of tolerance for other riders wanting to learn how to ride is probably why you only had two riders turn up for your ride.

Thanks to all those attended. Big thankyoo to the Tailcrew and Ron for lending me the TTR to pillion back the rider of the KTM. Two up on the TTR . The ride turned out to be a bit harder than i thought because of all the trees that are down. Managed to get around all but one, which meant that we had to get around via that hill. Good one to Tammy and Marls for getting through the day. You both did very well. The weather was reasonable- windy but no rain. Its harder than it looks to put on beginner rides. Trying to string a interesting ride together without making it too hard at this time of year. But having said that the only way to gain experience is to have a go at it. BTW the Sherco 2.5 did not break down . Unfortunatly the eurotrash GasGas and KTM let us down.
