Arrived at the unloading place early enough so I could have a nice hot cup of tea Grin there was already some keen riders there before me, sorry I can't name them, I'm hopeless with names, must be an old age thing Grin not sure what time it was I think it was close to 9am when Steve called us together for riders briefing, that out of the way 17 of us hit the trails we did the usual tracks plus Steve found A couple new tracks they were so good that we had to do them again in reverse Grin not long after that James had a flat, the timing was good tho as I was suffering from arm pump, after Matt & James fixed the flat we hit the trails again, after a while my arm pump was getting better & was able to ride the rough stuff a bit harder, after a tricky hill climb the track opened up with a lot of holes & bumps hitting them with a good bit of power on to keep the front light, the beemer was handling it very nicely until the engine revved up & nearly sending me over the bars I thought WTF when I stopped I see the chain laying on the ground, broken chain never broken a chain in my life till now, not sure who went back to the cars with Matt I think Steve went him to get a chain breaker I had a joining link, thanks fellas for your help, after fixing the chain we then rode back to the cars for lunch, I called it a day I didn't want to risk breaking the chain again.

Thanks Steve for leading the ride you did a great job mate & thanks Mark for doing the sweep all day,& everybody else for your great company.

some pic's to follow.

Well I hope you blokes had a good ride. The trails were pretty much as perfect as you will ever get.........damp enough to keep the dust away & yet really grippy. The sun was shining as well !!!

We had a bit of a shaky start with a couple of "directional experiments" ( Ride Leader Lesson No 1. : stick to the tracks you know), also in the first couple of hours or so there were some bike issues  & a flat tyre.
Eventually we hit more familiar territory down near Shady Track / Sweetwater area. Most had a crack at an intimidating looking steep uphill.....in reality, the traction was so good that it was piss easy . I was keen to get the blokes onto some excellent hilly trails so I set a pretty fair pace for around 8 or 9 klm. Then stopped for a re-group & waited & waited.......... eventually xr 400 ( sorry memory lapse) turned up & we waited....even had time for xr400 to take my bike for a quick test ride.
Sure enough, 3 of the fellas turned up with news of Frankie's broken chain, so back to Frankie we went. ( Ride Leader Lesson No. 2 : Re-group more often / put 2 on each corner in a large group)

Chain fixed & head back to cars for lunch & who is waiting just near the carpark ? Mr. Policeman  !!......... I pulled up....then 3 or 4 more........ Mr Plod starts getting his pen / notebook organised.......more riders pull up.........Mr. Plod's face starts to look bewildered & he says " How many of you are there ?"....... "17" says I............"Are you all licenced & registerd ? " asks Mr Plod...... "Yep" says I.........He throws his paperwork back into his vehicle & says " get going then I'm not going to check all of you " !

Top marks to Mr Policeman for using common sense !

11 of us went out for the afternoon ride, I went straight to a nasty little rocky uphill section which got everyone's heart rate going & then another rutted little uphill where there were 4wd 'ers enjoying their Sunday afternoon by trying to destroy both their $50,000 vehicles AND the environment at the same time !

Then it was all open , fast trails down to Hawthorn Bridge for a sticky beak , but there was no action there, so headed to a spot called Chinamans cutting to look at where Chinese gold prospectors had diverted the river back in the old gold rush days.

It was now starting to get a bit late so straight back to the cars via some interesting little short cuts through the pines & into the carpark at 4pm. My speedo = 98.8klm for the day.

Thanks for taking the day for me Steve, sounds like the boys had a great day out and I've been told you need to show me some of your tracks. Regards Will
