Title: Ex Long Time Member Post by: TheHeadhunter on December 16, 2011, 04,02:53 AM Hi Guys and Gals?
I used to be a member, during the 80's & 90's, around the time Dave Mancy was around(RIP), never missed an Easter or Christmas camp, along with a few rides during the years. In the mid 90's I moved to Perth, and have not ridden a bike since. My son has become interested in Dirt Bikes, although there is not as much available in and around Perth! Wasn't sure wether A.M.T.R.A was still going, until I noticed an add in a bike magazine, Glad to see the club is still going strong. Still have my old Bell helmet with Membership stickers all over it!! Keep it going. Regards Neville Manno Title: Re: Ex Long Time Member Post by: Serge C on December 16, 2011, 06,01:47 AM Hey Neville,
Good to see 'older' members checking in on us! Yes, AMTRA is still going, and going strong. There are probably some guys you rode with still involved in the club. Not sure from your comments if you are still in WA, but you're certainly welcome to come along to a club meeting if you want. Cheers. What were you riding Neville? I'm trying to put a face to the name. I was on a DT1, a white one of course. Title: Re: Ex Long Time Member Post by: Lefty on December 20, 2011, 01,02:09 AM Yeah, I remember Dave Mancy also. I first joined the club back in about 84 and camped out near the Wannagatta Station and I remember Dave and his thermos. I was riding an XR250 RE or RF, first one with a front disc. It was the ants pants. When did Dave pass on Ken ?

It was a perfect departure. I wasn't at that particular Dargo camp but Dave was doing his usual thing around the evening camp fire, chatting and snacking in his favourite deck chair with full lambs wool cover. Eventually he would doze off for a while, but on this occasion that was it, good night and good bye Dave. Like I said - Perfect! As far as I know there is a memorial plaque there for him. On one of his last rides around Dargo or Walhalla? I was tail when Dave lost control going around a left hander climbing up out of a valley. He nearly got it back together but then didn't, I watched in horror as he just tuned thru 90 degrees and rode off the edge of the track and headed back down into the valley. Luckily a bush then a tree stopped the descent, Tough old bugger just had a broken rib or two but the Honda was a bit sad looking, took a winch to get it back up to the tack So many memories, thankfully mostly good. Don't know how Dave used to get up onto his camper atop the PC, speacially after a few. As you guys said what a perfect way to go. |
