Folks,

Just thought we'd give you an up-date on where the web-site is at.

Prior to, (and over) the Christmas break, a small band of members got together and discussed the requirements for updating our current web-site and developing a new 'static' web-site.  To this end, we engaged the services of a web designer to build and renovate our sites.

First job was to get the existing forum off the US based server and install it on a local (Canberra) server.  A test version has been installed and we are happy with the way it's running, so in the next day or so, the AMTRA site will be off-line (for up to 48 hours), while all files are downloaded to the new server.  If you log onto the site during that time, you will receive a message advising this.  The administrators apologize for this inconvenience, but it is a necessary part of the process.

In the mean time, our designer has been building a new site which will reside on amtra.com.au  This site will contain all the information you will need to know about AMTRA (eg the Constitution, rules, info about using Abbeyard etc). This will free up valuable space on the forum.  It will also (ultimately) contain the store for membership renewals etc.  It will be the first thing anyone sees when the search AMTRA.  It will also contain a button that will link you to the forum.  When its up and running, all members will be directed firstly to this site, from where you can access the forum.  Should you choose to direct your browser directly to the forum, you will be able to do this.

Lastly, the final part of the renovation will be to up-date the forum softwear to the latest version.  This has always been a contentious issue, as no one really knows what will happen when we push the 'update' button!  To this end, our designer will take a copy of the existing forum, and up-date it separately to make sure it all goes well.  If the copy falls over, it won't affect the working forum, and we will try and work out where the problems lie.  If all goes well, you will see the latest forum softwear, which will have more features and be more secure.  From the members perspective, it will work just the same!

So, fingers crossed, all will be complete in the next little while and we can look forward to trouble free internetting!

Excellent stuff, the current web site isn't the most user friendly and if simplifying/making it more user friendly attracts more users/members then all the better.
Well done!!

Great to be kept updated Serge, and you did that while settling back into work, you are indeed a marvel.
