Title: Quick bit of boot advice please
Post by: Fireypete on January 07, 2011, 02,47:08 AM
Hello all,  picked up a pair of Gaerne G-React boots.  Couple of Q's.
Is a molded sole better than a stitched on sole?
Do I need the enduro type sole (Grip like a hiking boot) or is the standard, fairly smooth sole, OK?
I have noticed the better boots in their range all have stitched soles.
Anyone looking for boots I can give you some feed back on these, or do a write up and post it here.

Don't know, molded sole is a bit of a new thing though Alpinestar has a boot with a molded sole, Rowan has some.

Get the ones with grip, for walking up slippery red clay hills. The smooth ones are for
motocross, they don't walk.

Stitched-on soles can be replaced, although my time at a shoe repair place would tell me that replacing bike boot soles would cost about the same as a new pair of boots!

Some boots have replacable inserts in the foot peg area.  I think that is a better indication of their 'appropriateness' for our kind of riding.

As Tim says, go for the ones with 'grip/tread' patterns.  Sliding backwards down a hill you can't ride up (let alone walk up), is no fun at all!

I could be wrong but,the moulded soles seem to be a bit bigger in the toe area.
I got my Sidi chargers because they were alot flatter/narrower in toe area for gear changes.

The gaerne are "flatter" in the toe area compared to a few others I tried, so getting under a gear lever should be a bit easier.  Gaerne don't import the enduro style sole in Oz. So I think I will be  "slip sliding away"*
*who sung that oldie??
