Title: KTM 200 gearbox oil
Post by: Wiggy on January 08, 2013, 12,54:26 AM
Just looking for some ideas.............
The oil I drain out of my KTM 200 gearbox looks like this after a few hundred km.

Should it look like that ?

Drop a magnet in the oil and gently move it around, see if you get anything.
But being KTM it should have a sump Plug magnet.
Looks to me like Clutch material or Water.

Another thing , leave it for a week and see if any water comes to the top " Could be a water pump seal "

Just a bit of history.
Have already changed waterpump seal about a month ago.
Have changed the aluminium clutch plates to steels some time ago.

Might be the old Alloy clutch plate Material, i would run some oil through it a couple of time to see if it gets better

Hi Wiggy
that looks about normal mate my little 200 KDX would do that to it's oil pretty quick mostly the extra clutch work.
Just keep an eye on your oil change intervals and remember fresh oil is cheap insurance.
Regards Jeff

Hames KTM 125 will do that in 100klms on the old bottom end, will be interesting how it will go with the rebuilt engine
