Work commences on Mt Disappointment trail bike visitor area
Following a community-led selection process, work has started on the construction of a trail bike visitor area in Mt Disappointment State Forest, near Broadford.
“The project’s Community Reference Group selected the preferred location of the trail bike visitor area in consultation with the Department of Sustainability and Environment,” DSE’s Trail Bike Project Officer, Felicity Wardlaw said.
“The new site on Main Mountain Road in the northern end of the forest was chosen because it best meets the needs of local residents and trail bike riders.
“The new area will encourage riders to park away from houses by providing a range of facilities including parking bays, toilets and showers, and information about recommended riding routes.
“The project is an important part of the overall strategy to manage the impact of trail bike riding on local residents and the environment, while also enhancing recreational facilities.
“In addition to the new facility, noise reduction areas have been established, forest information and maps have been developed and forest patrols are ongoing.
“The Main Mountain Road facilities are located far enough away from residents to protect them from noise impacts, while still being practical for riders,” said Ms Wardlaw.
The project is being funded through the Victorian Government’s Our Environment Our Future – Sustainability Action Statement.
Construction of the visitor area is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
