Just confirming with the knowledgeable folk out there (yes, you 2)  After riding my new toy for a while and using the starter a fair bit it stalled (or I stalled it more likely) and I pushed that wonderful electric boot all I got was a sick whirring noise from the starter.  A quick push start and off we go, slowing down to open a gate the LED speedo died and the headlight looked dull.  Multi meter showed the bat' was down a bit.  its a cheapo after market job.  I'm guessing a new battery.  No issues with the charging systems that any one knows about?
Also, pushing on the front forks gives a bit of noise both comp. and rebound stroke, normal?
Otherwise an enjoyable blat was had. Oh, mate has a KTM400SX rather different to a DRZ! But, with kick start only every stall was a pain in the ..

The DR's have I think two fuses that are under the seat, check that both of then are okay, they often give grief.
Just to make sure it's charging, is there over 13v at the battery when it's running?

Noise from fork as you say is not normal, how are the seals, is there oil in them?

The 400's charging system is the same as the 250's....useless!

I would recommend (and so would Suzuki) buying a trickle charger, and leaving your DR on it all the time.  Disconnect it only when you are going on a ride.  Drain your fuel bowl after you wash the bike (so the fuel doesn't go stale and take valuable cranking time to fire up), then plug it in.

Naturally, Suzuki dealers sell the charger they recommend.  It has an auto cut-out, so every 3 or 4 days you need to turn it off and re-set it, but that's no problem.  I use one on my WR, even though it has a kicker.  Tim's suggestion is also a good idea.  No point generating power if it's not going anywhere!

Good luck!

I have found a lot of problems with after market batteries. I went through two after markets while the yuasathat comes from the factory with my wr459 lasted about three times as long.

Well, bought a new battery, nothing special just one of those run of the mill types and have a trickle charger set up to go.  If any one has any ideas in regards to the forks... when stationary with the front brake on I can push down and hear a clunk on compression and rebound.  It doesn't happen every time tho.  Also, the static sag at the back must be around 10cm.  Normal?  Front and rear feel pretty soft to me and they are at standard factory settings.
And while I'm at it any tyre recommendations?  Will need a set fairly soon.
Cheers, Pete

I had a clunking sound in my RMX forks, turns out i broke a spring "the front wheel barely ever touches the ground" so you never know, you may have a broken spring.
Tyres: Bridgestone 403 front, 404 Rear, or Michelin  M12's

I usually get 2 rides out of the rear, and 50 outta the front.

it doesn't take much to take the top caps off your forks and have a look at the springs and oil level.

i have a set of springs that were to light for me or you could contact suspensions r us on 5998 1021 he did my bike and i am very happy with it.
