Posted this in one of the spam threads but thought I'd start a new topic in case someone wanted to nuke the junk post.

===============================================
Are there any plans to add features to these forums to prevent advertsing spam bots such as this from signing up?

An example of something like this here:

http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/6697

Note this is just an example of something that could be implemented just from a quick google search...there's a lot of this phpbb addon software around so I suggest researching for the most applicable here.

Another site:
http://bbantispam.com/

Some more info here:
http://www.pinoyprofessionals.com/blogs/web-technology/phpbb2:-anti%11spam-measures/

Also...other things like dis-allowing (is that a word?) account sign up with free email addresses such as hotmail or yahoo etc. Or requiring a confirmation email to be answered fro account activation. As many things that involve real human interaction as possible.

That way you increase your odds of someone signing up here who really WANTS to sign up and participate, rather than some reject spammer account. The more hoops to jump through the better IMO.

Here's a big FU to all the spammers.

Greg

Thanks for doing a bit of research on the dreaded spam.

We do have to upgrade our sign up proceduers.

When we first got this site up we new it would propably become a problem down the track and that point has arrived.

We will get on top of it.

Dave the webman will have to crack the whip and get James on the job...
