Hi  ,

Have heard this from a number of people now .... Can anyone confirm that rec rego is doomed in Victoria and what does it mean for those that have it.

Probably a silly question but what the heck  Huh

I've just got a bike Rec Reged in the last few months, if this was going to happen I think the fist thing they would do is stop any more new Regos before they took away Rec Reg from the ones that have it.
I think it's a rumor, to me Rec Reg does what it was intended to do and I can't see any reason for it to stop.

Booked in to get rec. reg Jan 4th.  No comments on it being phased out at Vicroads.   Many years ago (10 at least) when I used to read dirtbike mags there was rumors going around that rec reg was going, but its still here.

I don't think it will disappear, but I have heard rumors that it may become more expensive. Some may take the view that rec reg TAC claims are disproportionately subsidised by other road users  Huh

If a cyclist is injured on the road what is their claim is it TAC, public or private insurance given they have no registration?

Another contentious question Bradley ... Remeber what happened last time you asked a seemingly simple question ... Surely they would not be covered by TAC.

It's TAC, they have injured themselves on a part of VicRoads infrastructure.

But they don't pay any TAC for it, I think it's just too hard to make a system for cyclists to work and the easy way is just cover them with the money the people pay on reg motorised vehicles.

How about $0 for all bikes under 17" $10 rego plate for all push bikes and road users $30?
And a $65 fine for not being registered.

Registration is not pu toward TAC cover, the TAC cover is a separate charge.

What you could charge a cyclist would most likely not cover the cost of collection and enforcement.

I think if no motor vehicle is involved then there is no cover under TAC. I get my cover for cycling by joining Bicycle Victoria, which also covers the kids.

If you wanted to charge bicycles then do you also have to charge pedestrians? Footpaths are part of the road reserve.
