As some of you know I'm moving to Churchill.
The next day after I put my unit on the market I received the worst possible news anyone would want, & that is my 43 year old daughter committed suicide, so needless to say I went through a bad time, the bloody agent didn't help either, they are just as bad as used car salesman.
Anyway the day has come for the big move, Friday night will be my first night there, I won't be coming to any monthly meetings anymore, some of you will be pleased & for the rest if ya ever want to come on one of my rides in the Churchill area & want to stay the night there's plenty of room to throw down a swag or if ya got a caravan there's room for that as well, I've got a lot of things to do first before I can put on a ride, just keep in ya mind.

Good Luck with the move Frankie. I've only moved house once and decided once was enough, that was 35 years ago.
My Mom lived in Churchill for yonks and we loved to go visit. I'm visiting my Sister in Traralgon on the way back from the ride this Sat.
You will no doubt drive past Yallourne B Power Station whilst exploring your new patch for trails, and my connection there is I drew up the grid flooring for the whole plant. Good steady work for 18 months delivered as required.
I officiated at the ISDE in Traralgon in 1998. I was one of 2 cold start judges where the riders have an allotted time (think it was 30 secs) to start their cold engine and ride from the Parc ferme to a line about 20 metres away. If they don't do it in the allotted time they loose their first points for the day and have to push over the line.
The then current Enduro World champion (an Italian, name I think was Salinen) came to start and I had him timed out by 2 secs and red flagged him. Well I didn't know there were that many Italians watching, you should have heard them go off. Luckily the other guy still had the time on his stop watch and confirmed for the officials.
Back in 1976 I was running the workshop for the Vic Suzuki importers and the then current 125cc MX World Champ Gaston Rahair came for a PR visit. He wanted a ride so a trail ride was organised for him and it was around Traralgon. An RM125 turned up in the workshop to have a number plate attached and Gaston was ready. I remember getting caught up in the excitement around the whole Gaston thing and lashed out on a plastic tank for my RT1. (360cc Yamaha 2 stroke for any young'uns wondering)
It was a great day out made even more unforgettable by one of the locals on a 350 Honda who had a bet with his mates that he could pass Gaston more times than they could. Gaston was a little yellow blur for most of the day and the last time this guy on the 350 attempted a pass around a blind Left Hander he disappeared off the side of the track down an embankment, talk about a good laugh. His buggered handlebars prevented any further silly ness.
So I have some good memories of the area and no doubt you will get some too. Looking forward to having another ride with you soon. The Maffra club used to be very active down that way for off road stuff and probably still are.
I lost a Son in the same terrible way Frankie and know how you are feeling. Like I said before - remember the good times.

Great read Ken, it was almost like being there myself, it'll be great to get out on the trails with ya soon to mate, I'll let ya know when I'm ready for a ride.
I'm sorry to hear of your loss mate.
My daughter was only 19 when the marriage split up, I only saw her now & then for the next 20 years, so I missed out on a big part of her life, I do remember the good times while I was with her & I'll be keeping them close to my heart.

Hey Ken you've brought back some good memories, when Gaston raced at Wallen, I can't remember the year, your memory might be better then mine, there was 2 very fast 125cc there that day one was Gaston on his works Suzuki & the other was a pommy known as Vic Allen on a very fast Bert Flood turned Bultaco, these to fellas put on such a awesome display that all the ppl that were there to witness it still talk about it today, these two blokes lapped all the locals on 400cc bikes, nobody knew that 125's could go so fast,I'm so happy that I'm one of the lucky ones that was there on that unforgettable day. The Japs were known for being copy cats, it put a smile on my face to see Gaston's team covering the bike up as soon he got back in the pits.  |

Will call round for a looksee at the new digs if thats ok., There are some great tracks right at your back door, no trailer required  .,I must check with jordo, as he knows this area well, lives up in the Jeeralangs behind your joint, he can link-up a ride from there through to Traralgon South and Callignee with out a problem,, will let you get settled in first hey.. talk soon |

Hey Ken, im sorry you lost your son in the same way. I have nearly lost my brother on a couple of occasions where his attempt wasnt successful, he has Bi-Polar, manic depression, OCD and Multiple Personality aswell, i have watched him all my life as he has been on a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. Sometimes he is so sure of life and goes great guns, other times he recluses away, he can be so manic and its hard to be with him as you never know what to expect as one minute he is happy and then in the next 30 seconds something can just change his good mood so dramatically...its hard to keep up. But the private hell he must be living, well, unless your living it, you just wont get it ha. This is where its been hard for me too as Dad cant get his gead around it, he keeps asking, why cant Adam be ok and just get on with life..I keep saying, Dad, dont you reckon he wouldnt be ok if he had a choice.! He has bi-polar Dad, its never going to be easy for him. So for me thats been hard too...not only watching Adam go through hell, but watching Dad not be able to deal with it. Many times i have had to step in between them and be the peacemaker. Mental Illness/ Depression etc...so many of us have been hurt by it. Im lucky, i still have my brother, but i feel for you guys too in what you have had to go through...caring thoughts from me...Bob xx |
