Hot Start Nut Problem - Mt Waverley area

OK it is not what you are thinking - yer the misses is hot and starts just fine thanks - and yes my nuts go just fine too - thanks for asking.
My problem is that my WR450 Hot Start cable no longer works - seized. On the weekend I was told it's simple just undo a plastic 14mm nut on the top of the carby where the cable goes into the carby - slip out whatever it is I have just undone fix the problem and replace. Easy. Well not so easy. The plastic nut is easily seen but way down in between bike frame on 2 sides, carby on 1 side and motor on the only remaining side. No way to get anything on it to undo (not even my fingers). A suggestions was a really long pair of pointy nose pliers. I tried the pissy ones I have - no joy. Is anyone in the Mt Waverley area that can help me out please ? Plan B is pack her up and go to the fix it shop.

May be easier to remove the carb first or at least twist it to one side? Never had the issuse with mine Claky. But i also never use it on the 250. I use the Ballards chain luber thing they sell with brake clean through it and the cable lube for the throttle and on the clutch cable when i was still running the cable. Al

Plan A - Undo cable at the handlebar end and if you have a cable lube attachment, as per Al, and give that a squirt, you may have to wait till it soaks down the cable, if it's badly seized maybe a couple of days.
Plan B - If you don't have one arrange the cable so it is pointing up and with insulation tape wind it onto the cable towards the top of the outer and then keep it winding up for a bit to form a small funnel. Then put some drops of oil in and go to bed to make sure that hot start still works - ha ha. Every time you walk past the funnel put a few more drops in. This should soak down thru the cable which may be seized and into the hot start plunger which may be seized. Give the inner cable a tug occasionally to see if it is free. Once again maybe a few days.
Plan C - Can you undo the carb clamp screws to enable the carb to be swung around to gain better access to the plastic nut to enable removal and inspection.

I undo mine whenever I check the valves as the cable gets in the way. Easiest way is to partly remove the carb as Al suggested, and twist it down towards you (take the fuel tank off first so you can loosen up the cable to give you a bit more room). You should then be able to carefully get a 12mm open ended spanner on it then but be careful you don't strip it. Then onces its off I put vaseline around the O ring and put it back together. It usually seizes when it is being pressure washed and water gets forced down the cable.
