This makes interesting reading. Professor Ian Plimer could not have said it better! If you've read his book you will agree, this is a good summary. Australians showed sense in resisting the govt pressure to agree to a carbon tax the before the Copenhagen Conference - which seems years ago now.

Are you sitting down? Okay, here's the bombshell. The current volcanic eruption going on in Iceland, since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet - all of you.

Of course you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress - it's that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans and all animal life.

I know, I know.... (group hug)...it's very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of: driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kid's "The Green Revolution" science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of Bali, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your $1 light bulbs with $10 light bulbs ...well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.

The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth's atmosphere in just four days - yes - FOUR DAYS ONLY by that volcano in Iceland, has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud any one time - EVERY DAY.

Oh, I don't really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in its entire YEARS on earth. Yes folks, Mt Pinatubo was active for over one year - think about it.

Of course I shouldn't spoil this touchy-feely tree-hugging moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well-recognized 800-year global heating and cooling cycle, which keep happening, despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.

I'm so sorry. And I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year.

Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you on the basis of the bogus "human-caused" climate change scenario.

Hey, isn't it interesting how they don't mention "Global Warming" any more, but just "Climate Change" - you know why? It's because the planet has COOLED by 0.7 degrees in the past century and these global warming bull artists got caught with their pants down.

And just keep in mind that if that same government is re-elected, you will have an Emissions Trading Scheme - that whopping new tax - imposed on you, that will achieve absolutely nothing except make you poorer. It won't stop any volcanoes from erupting, that's for sure.

But hey, grab a Coke, give the world a hug and have a nice day!

PS: I wonder if Iceland is buying carbon offsets?

Who's heads in the Sand now!!
Bring on the 2 Strokes.

Come on Peter, you cant expect people to believe the REAL FACTS. It does not suit the green agenda and extra taxes governments want to charge us.

Ow I don't want to get started as I could go on for days so I will keep it brief.
Don't worry goverments world wide for centurys have done it, Ceesar did it with the Coliseium and they will keep doing it, I just hope I never buy into there regular bull Sh-t, this is why they keep signing people up for huge loans and selling us the idea of having to spend all the time, so they have to keep working and paying tax's, if we worked out that we could live self sufficient in a place like Abbeyard and pay minimal tax's the country would be broke, and of coarse carbon tax is just going to be another way they get more of our hard earnt cash. How much have you spent on stickers Will? Best to keep working  I think. You seem to be the ultimate consumer.

I'm still not certain about what's causing global warming - whether it's man made, or not. However, if the amount of CO2 from volcanoes is reasonably constant and mankind starts to increase the amount of CO2 it is resonable for, or cutting down trees to stem the reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere, it stands to reason that the overall increase in CO2 levels is a result of mankind.

BUT - and here's the kicker - the volcano in Iceland will actually contribute to a COOLING of the earth. The reason being that there is now more particles in the air that it makes it harder for the planet to warm up. The same thing happened after the explosion of Mt. St Helens.

So, if global warming is really as bad as some people say, we can actually negate it pretty simply by pumping particles into the air. Sure, it's not the best thing to do but it's a solution that can be done pretty quickly if needed.

On a similar topic, I had this pointed out to me recently. People who cycle to work rather than drive could be doing more harm than good. This is because people tend to slow down near cyclists then speed back up after passing them. With drivers altering their speed like this, they are actually using more fuel due to the cyclist. Depending on the traffic and distance, the excess fuel used by the passing drivers could exceed the fuel saved from the cyclist electing not to drive.

Great posting Pete, I've been reading and following the Man Made Global Warming scam for a few years now and thankfully people have started to wake up to the scam..

The fact is the earth heats up and cools down all the time, some rich boffins figured we're all too dumb to remember the last time it got really hot and really cold as it happens over many years and they could blame us all and introduce some new tax.  The largest element that governs the earths temperature is infact the sun and solar activity.  Ask any astronomer and they'll tell you that the sun is in a cooling period with minimal solar flare and sun spot activity, this explains in part why the earth has infact cooled for the past 10 years (a subtle point most of the dooms day alarmist fail to mention)  The sun will again flare up as it did last week with plenty of solar flares but more when the black spots increase which produce intense magnetic activity.  These scientific dudes are just working out that the more sun spots, the hotter the earth gets..

And another simple fact, if we rid the earth of CO2, we'd die.  Plants also breath C02 and fart out oxygen so plants don't grow without CO2

At the end of the day, we live on a big rock hurtling through space at some crazy speed circling around this huge fire ball called the sun, and the greenies expect the planet to stay at a comfortable 25 degrees year in, year out...??  Who do they think they're kidding.

This is a great clip of a politician with some balls fronting up the European Parliament.

Keep an eye out for our premier Brumby who wants to close our coal stations to be replaced with wind farms, trust me we'll be paying through our butts for electricity that's unreliable.  I'm working for the energy market regulators at the moment and they're spending millions of tax payer $$$ on working out wind forecasting for the wind farms, good luck trying to predict when it's windy...

So help the planet, fuel up ya bike and go for a blast Smiley

Collins book store has available
"The Impact of Climate Change"  by Carolyn Fry.
It is great reading, relatively easy to understand and will give you a lot of issues to consider.
Have fun,

Where did the Professor in this article get his figures? A quick search fails to find anything that agrees with those figures. Have a look at these links -

Also have alook at the responses below this article

Here's an editorial that I find interesting and puts the matter into perspective and was written in 2009 before Rudd went to Copenhagen.  Cheers, DanJ

Here’s a way to understand Mr Rudd’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.
Imagine 1 kilometre of atmosphere that we want to rid of human carbon pollution.  We’ll have a walk along it.

The first 770 metres are Nitrogen.

The next 210 metres are Oxygen.

That’s 980 metres of the 1 kilometre.  20 metres to go.

The next 10 metres are water vapour.  10 metres left.

9 metres are argon.  Just 1 more metre.

A few gases make up the first bit of that last metre.

The last 38 centimetres of the kilometre – that’s carbon dioxide.  A bit over one foot.
97% of that is produced by Mother Nature.  It’s natural.

Out of our journey of one kilometre, there are just 12 millimetres left.  About half an inch.  Just over a centimetre. That’s the amount of carbon dioxide that global human activity puts into the atmosphere.
And of those 12 millimetres Australia puts in .18 of a millimetre.

Less than the thickness of a hair.  Out of a kilometre.

As a hair is to a kilometre – so is Australia’s contribution to what Mr Rudd calls Carbon Pollution.
Imagine Brisbane’s new Gateway Bridge, ready to be officially opened by Mr Rudd.  It’s been polished, painted and scrubbed by an army of workers till its 1 kilometre length is surgically clean.  Except that Mr Rudd says we have a huge problem, the bridge is polluted – there’s a human hair on the roadway.  We’d laugh ourselves silly.

There are plenty of real pollution problems to worry about.  It’s hard to imagine that Australia’s contribution to carbon dioxide in the world’s atmosphere is one of the more pressing ones.  And I can’t believe that a new tax on everything is the only way to blow that pesky hair away.

Perhaps we all need to just take a few deep breaths.
